Ricoh fi-8930: A3 production scanning at 130 ppm with a 750-sheet feeder
130 ppm / 260 ipm (A4 landscape)750-sheet ADFA3 up to 304.8 x 431.8 mm110,000 sheets/day
The Ricoh fi-8930 is a high-volume production document scanner that captures both sides of A4 pages at 130 ppm in landscape feed, designed for scanning bureaus, mailrooms, archives and back offices that digitise tens of thousands of pages a day. Its 750-sheet feeder takes A4 and A3 stacks, paper from 20 to 570 g/m2 and long pages up to 6,096 mm, and it connects by USB 3.2 Gen 1 or Gigabit Ethernet so it can sit on the network and be managed centrally. The expected daily volume is 110,000 sheets. In practice this is the scanner you plan a capture workflow around: batches are prepared and separated once, the feeder takes a full ream-sized load, and image processing in PaperStream IP removes blank pages, straightens skewed sheets and cleans backgrounds before the images reach your capture or archive software. Because it is a TWAIN and ISIS device, it works with PaperStream Capture out of the box and with most third-party capture platforms through the driver.
Before you order: This is a Windows scanner: drivers and PaperStream software support Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, with no official macOS support. At 23 kg and 460 x 430 x 315 mm it needs a sturdy dedicated workstation.
What's in the Box
- Ricoh fi-8930 scanner
- Pick, brake and separation rollers (pre-installed, rated 700,000 sheets)
- Power cords (UK and EU)
- USB 3.0 cable (2 m)
- Setup DVD-ROM
- Getting started and safety documentation
What It Means in Practice
- At 130 ppm landscape a full 750-sheet A4 batch runs in roughly 5.8 minutes of feeding time, so operator time goes on preparation and indexing, not waiting.
- Landscape feeding of A4 is the fastest mode; in portrait the rated speed is lower, so set up batches accordingly.
- Thick cards up to 570 g/m2 and envelopes up to 1.25 mm go through the straight path, which means fewer pages need to be pulled out for manual handling.
- Gigabit Ethernet plus Scanner Central Admin lets IT monitor roller counts and push settings to several scanners from one console.
- The 4.3-inch touchscreen shows job and error information at the scanner, so operators can recover from jams without walking back to the PC.
What Will Not Work
- No macOS or Linux support is officially listed: plan a Windows workstation or server for capture.
- No flatbed: bound books and very fragile originals cannot be scanned; this is a sheet-fed machine.
- No Wi-Fi: it connects by USB or wired Ethernet only.
- It is not a small-office scanner: 23 kg and 460 x 430 x 315 mm need a dedicated workstation, and the price only makes sense at production volumes.
- Don't accidentally order the fi-8950 (PA03830-B001): identical-looking chassis, different rated speed and daily volume.
Key Features
750-sheet feeder with A3
Load 750 A4 or 500 A3 sheets at 80 g/m2 in one go, with document sizes from 48 x 70 mm to 304.8 x 431.8 mm. This matters most when the scanner runs all day with several operators.
Clear Image Capture
Dual CIS sensors with four RGB LED light sources produce consistent images that help OCR accuracy. Rated speed applies at both 200 and 300 dpi, the usual settings for OCR.
Network management
Gigabit LAN plus Scanner Central Admin and PaperStream NX tools for central monitoring of fleets. Roller counts and errors are visible remotely, so maintenance is planned rather than reactive.
Post imprinter options
Optional front (PA03830-D301) and back (PA03830-D303) imprinters stamp audit text on originals as they scan. Imprinting is useful where originals must be traceable to their scanned image.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the fi-8930 and the fi-8950?
The fi-8950 uses the same chassis and feeder but is rated faster (150 ppm landscape) and for 130,000 sheets per day; the fi-8930 is rated 130 ppm and 110,000 sheets per day.
Can it scan A3 drawings and ledgers?
Yes, up to 304.8 x 431.8 mm through the feeder, with 500 A3 sheets per batch.
Which consumables should we stock?
The consumable starter kit CON-3830-700SK and cleaning kit CON-CLE-K75; rollers are rated at about 700,000 sheets.
Will it work with our existing capture software?
Most professional capture platforms use TWAIN or ISIS, both of which PaperStream IP provides; send us the name and version of your software and we confirm before you order.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Production scanners are bought on daily volume, not top speed: the fi-8930 is rated for 110,000 sheets a day, so size it against your real peak workload with some headroom. Put it on a Gigabit
network switch port so central admin and network scanning are not slowed by older 100 Mbit links. For capture software beyond PaperStream, check TWAIN/ISIS support with your vendor before the project starts.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if you run a scanning bureau, mailroom or archive project with daily volumes measured in tens of thousands of pages, including A3.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if you scan a few hundred pages a day, need macOS support or have no room for a 23 kg machine.
→ Also consider Also consider the Ricoh fi-8950 (PA03830-B001) for the same body at a different speed, or the fi-8190 for workgroup volumes.
