RIVACASE 8550 Tiergarten — 17.3″ Laptop Bag in Water-Resistant Polyester
Fits 17.3″ laptopsRemovable shoulder strapTrolley band0.81 kg
The RIVACASE 8550 is a 17.3-inch laptop bag from the Tiergarten collection, built around a padded main compartment with a laptop pocket measuring 425 x 290 x 45 mm — a size that accommodates the large 17-inch machines most business bags stop short of. The shell is water-resistant polyester and the interior is finished in a contrasting silver lining that makes items easy to find. Two external front pockets take accessories, business cards and a phone, there is a tablet pocket for devices up to 10.1 inches inside, and the rear pocket carries an elastic trolley band. The shoulder strap is removable and adjustable with an anti-slip pad. Our product code for this item is 8550 BLACK. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a soft bag, not a hard case. RIVACASE sells the 8550 under “Laptop bags and briefcases” and calls it a laptop bag; several resellers describe it as a “notebook carrying case”, which suggests a rigid shell it does not have. The Tiergarten collection is not an ECO line — unlike RIVACASE’s Tegel, Suzuka, Sherwood and Clark collections, the 8550 carries no rPET or recycled-material claim. Do not assume recycled content from the brand’s other ranges. Tablet: up to 10.1 inches, so a 12.9″ iPad Pro will not fit that pocket. Volume: RIVACASE publishes no litre figure for the 8550; use the external dimensions of 440 x 300 x 90 mm. Not published: RIVACASE claims no RFID pocket, no rain cover, no lockable zips, no reflective elements, no key strap and no side pockets for this model. Water resistance is the fabric only — there is no waterproof-zip claim.
Best For
✓ Carrying a genuine 17.3″ work or gaming laptop with documents
✓ Business use where a briefcase looks better than a backpack
✓ Travel where the bag slides onto a trolley handle
✓ Anyone who wants to find things in a bag without a torch
Key Features
Sized for a real 17.3-inch machine
The laptop pocket measures 425 x 290 x 45 mm inside a 440 x 300 x 90 mm bag. That 45 mm depth accommodates thicker 17-inch laptops that will not fit slimmer cases, and the compartment is padded on all sides.
Contrasting silver interior
The lining is a light silver rather than the usual black-on-black, which makes a cable, a pen or a business card visible at a glance instead of requiring a rummage. It sounds cosmetic and turns out to be practical.
Three ways to carry
Padded carry handles for short distances, a removable and adjustable shoulder strap with an anti-slip shoulder pad for the commute, and a rear pocket fitted with an elastic trolley band that slides the bag over a suitcase handle.
Two front pockets plus a document section
Two external front pockets take accessories, business cards and a smartphone, the main compartment holds documents alongside the laptop, and there is a tablet pocket for devices up to 10.1 inches. Zips have dual pulls.

Singular Expert Insight
Seventeen-point-three inches is where the bag market thins out. Most business cases top out at 15.6″, and the ones that go larger are usually sports-styled backpacks, so a plain black briefcase that genuinely takes a 17″ machine has a small but persistent audience. The 8550’s 425 x 290 x 45 mm pocket is what makes it work — the depth in particular, since thick 17-inch laptops are the ones that defeat slimmer cases. The silver interior lining is the detail people mention after living with the bag: finding a cable in a black-lined bag is a small daily annoyance this design removes. Be clear on two things. Tiergarten is not one of RIVACASE’s recycled-fabric collections, so if rPET content is a requirement, look at the Tegel range instead. And RIVACASE publishes no volume figure, no RFID pocket, no lockable zips and no side pockets for this model, so none of those appear here even though third-party listings sometimes add them. Browse our full range of laptop bags and cases, and consider a docking station so the laptop is the only thing that travels.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You carry a 17.3-inch laptop and want a plain, smart briefcase-style bag with a genuinely deep laptop pocket, a removable shoulder strap and a trolley band, rather than a backpack.
Skip it if
You want recycled fabric, a rigid protective shell, a tablet pocket larger than 10.1 inches, or a published volume figure and RFID protection.
Also consider
The RIVACASE 8530 for a 16-inch laptop or the 8630 for 15.6 inches, both in the same Tiergarten collection. For a 17.3-inch bag in recycled rPET, the Tegel 8455 is the alternative.
