Samsung Galaxy A35 5G — 1,000 nits, and a published figure for it
1,000 nits published6.6″ AMOLED · 120 Hz50 MP with OISmicroSD to 1 TB
The SM-A356BZKBEUB is the Galaxy A35 5G in Awesome Navy with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It has a 6.6″ Super AMOLED display at 1080 × 2340 running at 120 Hz with a published 1,000 nits of high-brightness output, a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, 4K video, stereo speakers, microSD to 1 TB and IP67.
Compatibility — check before buying:
???? A colour note, because part-number conventions mislead here.
⭐ 1,000 nits, and Samsung actually publishes the number. Worth highlighting because Samsung publishes no brightness figure at all for the A17, the A26, the A36 or the A37. Here it states 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode — which is the specification that decides whether a screen is usable outdoors in Cyprus sun. On this one you know; on the others you are guessing.
⚠️ On the update commitment, Samsung’s own copy is inconsistent, and we will show you both. Its pages say “up to 4 generations of OS upgrades and up to 5 years of security updates”, and separately publish a security-update end date of 31 March 2028. Those two do not reconcile neatly. We reproduce both verbatim rather than picking the flattering one. Either way this is a shorter commitment than the newer A36 and A26, which both run to 2031 with six OS upgrades — and that is the main reason to consider a newer model instead.
⭐ microSD to 1 TB — which the A36 does not have at all. The newer A36 has no memory-card slot. If expandable storage matters to you, the A35 is the model in this range that offers it.
⭐ NFC is explicitly published as “Yes”. Also worth stating, because Samsung omits the NFC row entirely from the A17, A26 and A36 specification tables. On the A35 there is no ambiguity.
⚠️ The 25 W charger is not in the box. Samsung states the wall charger for Super Fast Charging (25 W) is sold separately. Note also that the A36 and A37 charge at 45 W — nearly twice as fast.
⚠️ No 3.5 mm headphone jack and no chipset name is published anywhere on Samsung’s European pages — only “Octa-Core, 2.4 GHz, 2.0 GHz”. Chipset names attached to this phone elsewhere do not come from a Samsung source, so we do not print one.
⚠️ It is the heaviest phone in this group at 209 g, and Samsung does not publish its glass type or box contents.
ZK normally denotes black in Samsung part numbers — but on the A35 it does not. Samsung’s own UK and German pages publish SM-A356BZKBEUB as “Awesome Navy”. (The Awesome Lemon version is ZY.) Some resellers list this exact code as black; that is a reseller error, not Samsung.⭐ 1,000 nits, and Samsung actually publishes the number. Best For
✓ Outdoor use, where the published 1,000 nits actually means something
✓ Someone who wants expandable storage — the newer A36 has none
✓ Everyday photography and 4K video with stabilisation
✓ A large AMOLED screen with stereo sound at a mid-range price
Key Features
1,000 nits — and it is a published figure
Samsung publishes high-brightness-mode output for this model, which it does not do for the A17, A26, A36 or A37. For a screen used outdoors that is the specification that matters most.
50 MP main camera with optical stabilisation
f/1.8 with OIS, plus an 8 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide and a 5 MP f/2.4 macro. Front camera 13 MP f/2.2. Video to UHD 4K at 30 fps, with 240 fps slow motion at HD.
⭐ microSD expansion to 1 TB
A slot the newer A36 does not have at all. Combined with 128 GB built in, storage is never the constraint it is on the A36.
IP67, Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers and NFC
Dust-tight and immersion-rated; Wi-Fi 6 rather than Wi-Fi 5; genuine stereo sound; and NFC published explicitly as supported.
⚠️ Shorter support than the newer models
Samsung publishes a security-update end date of 31 March 2028, against 2031 for the A26 and A36. If longevity is your priority, look at those instead.

Singular Expert Insight
The A35 is now the older member of this group, and whether that matters depends entirely on what you want from a phone. Its genuine advantages over the newer A36 are two, and both are real: it has a microSD slot to 1 TB where the A36 has none at all, and it publishes 1,000 nits of screen brightness where Samsung publishes no figure whatsoever for the A17, A26, A36 or A37. For a phone used outdoors, knowing the brightness is worth more than a specification you have to guess at. Its disadvantage is support: Samsung publishes a security-update end date of 31 March 2028, against 2031 for the A26 and A36. If you keep phones for five years, that difference should decide it. Two smaller notes. The colour code is misleading — this is Awesome Navy, not black, whatever the
ZK suffix suggests. And at 209 g it is the heaviest phone here, with 25 W charging against the A36’s 45 W. Browse our mobile phone range or our phone cases.Buyer’s Guide
