Samsung Galaxy Buds3 FE — ANC earbuds with up to 30 hours and Galaxy AI

Active noise cancellingBluetooth 5.4IP54 (buds)Up to 30 h with case

The SM-R420NZAAEUE is Samsung’s Galaxy Buds3 FE in grey — true wireless earbuds with a blade-style stem, active noise cancelling, six microphones and Bluetooth 5.4. Samsung publishes up to 6 hours per bud with ANC on and 8.5 hours with it off, rising to 24 and 30 hours with the case. The buds are IP54 rated. Launched September 2025. This is the EUE market allocation of the SM-R420 — the same product as the DBT version, with a different regional code.

Compatibility — check before buying:
What works on which phone — the part most listings overstate. Basic audio and calling work with any Bluetooth phone, Android or iPhone, over the standard A2DP, AVRCP and HFP profiles. Everything else is Galaxy-gated. The SSC (Samsung Seamless Codec), 360 Audio, Auto Switch, Gaming mode and Bixby all require a Samsung Galaxy device — 360 Audio needs One UI 3.1 or later, Auto Switch needs One UI 4.1.1 or later on phones and tablets. Galaxy AI features are supported on the Galaxy S25, S24 and S23 series plus selected Z Fold, Z Flip and Tab S9/S10 models, with some functions requiring One UI 8.0. Samsung’s European pages say nothing at all about iOS, so we make no claim of an iPhone app.

???? Greek is not a supported Interpreter language. Samsung Greece states this outright: the Interpreter feature covers 20 languages across 23 regions and Greek is not among them. If live translation into Greek is why you are buying these, it will not do it.

Best For

✓ Everyday commuting and noise on the move
✓ Calls, with six microphones and voice isolation
✓ Galaxy phone owners who want Auto Switch and 360 Audio
✓ Anyone who wants ANC without paying Buds3 Pro money

Key Features

Active noise cancelling, adjustable rather than stepped
Samsung claims “enhanced ANC” and an ambient sound mode. It publishes no decibel figure and no numbered levels — the Galaxy Wearable app uses continuous sliders for both ANC strength and ambient volume. Listings quoting “three ANC levels” have made that up.

Up to 30 hours, and the ANC cost is published
6 hours per bud with ANC on, 8.5 with it off; 24 and 30 hours respectively including the case. Talk time is 4 hours per bud and 18 with the case, the same whether ANC is on or off. Samsung does not publish a charging time.

Six microphones and voice isolation
Samsung calls it Crystal Clear Call technology, using a pre-trained machine learning model to isolate your voice, helped by a microphone position angled towards the mouth. Note Samsung does not claim wind-noise reduction anywhere, so we do not either.

Blade design with pinch controls
A stem rather than a bean. You pinch the blade — once to play, pause or answer, twice for the next track, three times to go back, press and hold for a shortcut or to decline a call — and swipe up and down on the touch pad for volume.

IP54 — buds only, and Samsung says so
Rated against dust and splashed water from any direction. Samsung states explicitly that the protection applies to the earbuds and not to the charging case. That distinction is missing from most listings and it matters if you get caught in rain with the case in a pocket.

Technical Specifications

Model Galaxy Buds3 FE (SM-R420)
Part Number (MPN) SM-R420NZAAEUE
EAN / GTIN 8806097621232
Colour Gray
Colour Range Black and Grey
Launched 4 September 2025
Market Code EUE — the code Samsung serves on its Austrian, Polish, Hungarian and Estonian sites. Samsung publishes no decoder for its market suffixes, and states no difference between them. The DBT version of the same earbuds is the German-market code; we have compared both specification tables field for field and they are identical.
Audio
Speaker 1-way — a single dynamic driver. Samsung’s European pages publish no driver size; its US page states an 11 mm dynamic driver. It is not the two-way design used in the Buds3 Pro.
Codecs AAC, SBC and SSC (Samsung Seamless Codec)
Active Noise Cancelling Yes — “enhanced ANC”. No dB figure and no numbered levels are published; the app uses a continuous slider.
Ambient Sound Yes, with a continuous volume slider
360 Audio Yes — requires a Galaxy phone or Tab on One UI 3.1 or later
Microphones 6 — note Samsung’s UK newsroom says “3 mics” while its specification table says 6. Most likely 3 per bud; Samsung never reconciles the two.
Connectivity
Bluetooth Version 5.4
Profiles A2DP, AVRCP, HFP
Auto Switch Yes — handoff between Galaxy devices on the same Samsung account. Requires One UI 4.1.1+ on phones and tablets, One UI 6.0+ on Galaxy Book, or a Galaxy Watch4 or later.
Multipoint Not published. Samsung claims Auto Switch, which is account-based handoff between Galaxy devices — not simultaneous connection to two hosts. Do not read one as the other.
LE Audio / Auracast Not published for this model on any Samsung page.
Sensors Hall, pressure, proximity, touch
Battery & Charging
Earbud Battery 53 mAh
Case Battery 515 mAh
Playback, ANC on 6 hours per bud · 24 hours with the case
Playback, ANC off 8.5 hours per bud · 30 hours with the case
Talk Time 4 hours per bud · 18 hours with the case — the same with ANC on or off
Charging USB-C, via the case
Wireless Charging No. Samsung states verbatim that wireless charging is not supported. The Buds3 Pro does support it, which is where the confusion in most listings comes from.
USB-C Cable Not included — Samsung says so explicitly
Charging Time Not published on any regional page or in the user guide
Design & Durability
Type True wireless, in-ear, blade (stem) design
Water & Dust IP54 — earbuds only. Samsung states the charging case is not covered.
Earbud Weight 5 g each
Earbud Dimensions 21.1 × 18.0 × 33.8 mm
Case Weight 41.8 g
Case Dimensions 48.7 × 58.9 × 24.4 mm
Ear Tips Three sets in the box — S, M and L
Controls Pinch the blade for playback and calls; swipe up and down on the touch pad for volume
Galaxy AI
Interpreter Real, but it runs through the Galaxy AI Interpreter app on the phone — the buds are the input and output, not the processor.
Greek Support Not supported. Samsung Greece states Greek is not among the Interpreter languages.
Gemini Voice access by “Hey Google” or long press. Requires a Google Gemini account, is limited to selected devices, languages and countries, and is restricted to users aged 18 and over. Samsung Greece notes One UI 8.0 or later for this activation method.
Live Translate Named by Samsung’s newsroom and its US page but absent from the UK specification table. Requires a compatible Galaxy device and a Samsung account; English and French are pre-installed and other languages download separately.
Supported Phones Galaxy S25, S24 and S23 series, plus selected Z Fold, Z Flip, Tab S10 and Tab S9 models, all on the latest software
Warranty
Warranty 1-Year Warranty (Singular)
Manufacturer Term Samsung’s UK schedule lists earbuds at 12 months. Singular’s direct warranty is 1 year.
Not Published by Samsung
Omitted Specifications Charging time, driver size on European pages, ANC strength in decibels, frequency response, impedance, case charging input rating, and wind-noise handling.
A Note on Third-Party Claims The recurring errors on this model are: a wirelessly charging case (there is none), IP54 covering the case (it does not), multipoint (not claimed), LE Audio or Auracast (not published), a two-way driver (that is the Buds3 Pro), and a USB-C cable in the box (there is not one).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the case charge wirelessly?
No. Samsung states plainly that wireless charging is not supported on the Buds3 FE. The Buds3 Pro does support it, which is why so many listings get this wrong. Charging is by USB-C — and the cable is not in the box.
Are the buds and the case both waterproof?
Neither is waterproof, and only the buds are rated at all. Samsung gives the earbuds IP54 — dust and splashed water — and states explicitly that the charging case is not covered.
Can I connect them to two devices at once?
Samsung does not claim multipoint for these. What it does claim is Auto Switch, which moves the connection automatically between Galaxy devices signed in to the same Samsung account. That is a different thing and it only works within the Galaxy ecosystem.
Will they translate Greek?
No. Samsung Greece states directly that Greek is not one of the supported Interpreter languages. The feature covers 20 languages across 23 regions and Greek is not among them.
Do they work with an iPhone?
Basic audio and calls will work over standard Bluetooth. Everything that makes them Galaxy earbuds — the SSC codec, 360 Audio, Auto Switch, Gaming mode, Bixby and the Galaxy AI features — requires a Samsung Galaxy device. Samsung’s European pages make no statement about iOS at all, so we will not promise an app.
How many ANC levels are there?
Samsung does not publish a number, because the app uses a continuous slider rather than fixed steps for both noise cancelling and ambient sound. Listings quoting a fixed number of levels are inventing it.
How long do they take to charge?
Samsung does not publish a charging time — not on any regional page and not in the official user guide. We would rather leave that blank than fill it in from a retailer listing.
Singular Expert Insight
The Buds3 FE sit in a sensible place: most of what the Buds3 Pro does, minus the two-way driver and the wirelessly charging case, at a considerably lower price. Two things are worth being clear about before you buy. First, they are Galaxy earbuds in the real sense — on an iPhone or a Pixel you get sound and calls and essentially nothing else, and Samsung does not even discuss iOS on its European pages. Second, if the Galaxy AI translation features are the draw, check your language: Samsung Greece states outright that Greek is not supported by Interpreter, which for a Cyprus buyer is the single most relevant sentence on the whole product. As earbuds, judged as earbuds, they are a strong buy on a Galaxy phone. Browse the rest of our true wireless earbuds, or our headphones if you would rather have over-ears.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You use a Galaxy phone, you want proper ANC and long battery life, and you do not need the Buds3 Pro’s two-way driver or wireless charging case.

Skip it if

You use an iPhone or a non-Samsung Android (you lose almost every feature), you need multipoint or a wirelessly charging case, or you are buying for Greek translation — it is not supported.

Also consider

The Galaxy Buds3 Pro for a two-way driver and a wirelessly charging case, or over-ear headphones if isolation matters more than pocketability.
