Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 — 8-Inch Fold, 200 MP, Jetblack

8″ main screen200 MP main camera3x optical zoom12 GB / 256 GB

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (SM-F966BZKBEUB) is a book-style folding phone in Jetblack, with 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. Closed it is a normal 6.5-inch phone; opened it is an 8-inch tablet. It is the generation that carries Samsung’s 200 MP main camera and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom — a combination the newer standard Fold8 does not have.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Read this before you assume newer is better. The Galaxy Z Fold7 (SM-F966B) has a 200 MP main camera and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Its successor, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 (SM-F971B), has a 50 MP main and no telephoto lens at all — the 200 MP sensor and the zoom move up to the Fold8 Ultra. If camera reach is why you are buying a large foldable, the Fold7 is the cheaper way to get it. Two other points: the rating is IP48, so fine dust and sand are not covered even though water immersion is, and Samsung states plainly that the Z Fold7 does not support the S Pen.

Best For

✓ Reading, documents and spreadsheets on an 8-inch screen
✓ Two apps side by side on a phone
✓ Photography with real optical reach on a foldable
✓ Anyone who carries a phone and a small tablet
✓ Watching video without a second device
✓ Buyers who want the 200 MP camera at a lower price than the Ultra

Key Features

An 8-inch tablet that folds shut
The main display is 8.0 inches, QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 2184 x 1968, 368 ppi, 120 Hz adaptive, rated up to 2,600 nits. Closed, the 6.5-inch cover screen is a full 21:9 phone at 2520 x 1080 and 422 ppi, so you are not compromising when the phone is shut.

200 MP and a real telephoto
50 MP is the norm on foldables; this one carries a 200 MP F1.7 main with optical stabilisation, a 12 MP ultra-wide, and a 10 MP F2.4 telephoto at 3x optical zoom. Two 10 MP front cameras, inner and cover, mean you can take a selfie either way. The standard Fold8 that replaced it has neither the 200 MP sensor nor a telephoto.

Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy
Samsung uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in every market for the Fold7, so a European unit is not a different chip from a review you read elsewhere. Alongside it sit 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage in this configuration.

4,400 mAh across a dual battery
25 W wired charging, published at about 50% in half an hour, plus Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare for earbuds and watches. Samsung does not publish a wireless wattage figure for this model, so we do not quote one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy the newer Fold8 instead?
Not automatically, and this is the most useful thing on this page. The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 50 MP main camera and no telephoto lens; this Fold7 has a 200 MP main and a 10 MP 3x optical telephoto. The Fold8 is newer, brighter and charges faster, but on cameras it is a step back unless you go up to the Fold8 Ultra. Decide on which of those matters more to you, not on the number in the name.
Does it take an S Pen?
No. Samsung states outright that the Galaxy Z Fold7 does not support the S Pen, and the S Pen Fold Edition accessories sold for the Fold5 and Fold6 will not work with it. No pen is included.
Is IP48 the same as IP68?
No. The 8 covers water immersion; the 4 means protection only against solid objects larger than 1 millimetre. Fine dust, sand and grit can reach the hinge, which is the part of a foldable that dust actually damages. Rain and spills are fine; a beach bag is not.
What comes in the box?
Samsung does not publish a box-contents list for this model on the pages we can reach. Across its current foldables Samsung supplies no mains charger, so plan on using one you own or buying one — and tell us if you need it in the same order.
Singular Expert Insight
The Fold7 is in an unusual position: it is the previous generation, and on cameras it is the better phone. Samsung moved the 200 MP sensor and the 3x telephoto out of the standard Fold8 and reserved them for the Fold8 Ultra, so a buyer upgrading from a Fold7 to a Fold8 loses optical reach and drops from 200 MP to 50 MP. If you want an 8-inch fold with a proper camera and you do not want to pay Ultra money, this is the phone to buy, and it will get cheaper rather than dearer. What you give up against the newer generation is charging speed (25 W against 45 W), brightness, and a published update commitment — Samsung does not print an OS or security-years figure on the Fold7 pages we can reach, and we are not going to invent one. Ask us and we will check the current support date before you order. Also worth knowing: the Fold8 Ultra has the same folded dimensions and the same 215 g as this phone, so the Ultra is really the Fold7 body with new internals, while the standard Fold8 is a different, wider shape. Cases do not cross between them. The rest of the range is in mobile phones, and cases in phone cases.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want an 8-inch folding screen with a 200 MP camera and real 3x optical zoom, and you would rather have last year’s flagship camera than this year’s name.

Skip it if

You need the newest software commitment in writing, or 45 W charging. Skip it too if the phone will live around dust and sand, if you need S Pen support, or if you want the brightest available fold.

Also consider

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you want the 200 MP camera and the telephoto with the newest internals. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 if you prefer the wider new shape and do not use zoom. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 for a pocket-sized fold instead.
