The Samsung PRO Plus MB-SD128S is a full-size 128 GB SDXC UHS-I memory card rated for up to 180 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write, carrying the V30, U3 and Class 10 marks that a camera needs for sustained 4K video. PRO Plus sits just below PRO Ultimate in Samsung’s full-size SD range, and the gap between them is narrower than the naming suggests: only two published specifications differ — read speed, 180 MB/s against 200, and waterproof depth, 1 metre against 2. Write speed, every speed class, every durability rating and the warranty are identical. Samsung positions the PRO Plus line at DSLR, mirrorless and compact cameras, camcorders and laptops, and backs the card with a 10-year limited warranty. Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a full-size SD card, not a microSD — it will not fit a phone, a drone or an action camera without an adapter that Samsung does not supply here. Two things worth knowing before you judge the speed. First, the 180 MB/s figure needs Samsung’s own PRO Ultimate reader: it comes from DDR200, a non-standard extension to UHS-I, and in an ordinary SDR104 card slot the card will run closer to the usual UHS-I ceiling of around 104 MB/s. Second, the V30 mark guarantees 30 MB/s sustained write, which is the number that actually decides whether a camera can hold a 4K recording — the 130 MB/s is a burst figure. Samsung claims 4K UHD for this line and does not claim 8K.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PRO Plus much slower than PRO Ultimate?
On paper, by 20 MB/s of read speed — 180 against 200. In practice the difference is smaller still, because both figures need Samsung’s own reader and its DDR200 mode to appear at all; in an ordinary SDR104 card slot both cards run nearer 104 MB/s. Write speed is identical at 130 MB/s, and that is the number that matters while you are shooting.
So what actually differs between the two lines?
Two things Samsung publishes: read speed, and waterproof depth — 1 m for PRO Plus against 2 m for PRO Ultimate, both for 72 hours. Everything else is the same: Class 10, U3 and V30, the same 130 MB/s write, the same temperature, X-ray, magnet, shock and drop ratings, and the same 10-year limited warranty.
Will it handle 4K video?
Yes. The V30 mark guarantees at least 30 MB/s of sustained writing, which is the threshold cameras are designed around for 4K, and Samsung claims 4K UHD for this line. It does not claim 8K, and we do not either.
Why does this one end in /EU when the PRO Ultimate cards end in /WW?
Because Samsung uses different region suffixes for the two lines, and it is genuinely inconsistent rather than a mistake in the listing. PRO Plus full-size SD cards carry /EU in Europe; PRO Ultimate full-size SD cards carry /WW. Both are the correct European parts.
Singular Expert Insight
This is the card to buy unless you have a specific reason to want the Ultimate. The two lines differ by 20 MB/s of read speed that most card slots cannot deliver anyway, and by a waterproof rating measured in metres of immersion that a camera card is unlikely to meet in real life. Write speed, the classes that matter for video, the durability set and the ten-year warranty are all identical. Put the difference towards a second card instead — two 128 GB cards are a better answer to a failed card than one 256 GB.
