Samsung CLT-R806K — black imaging drum for the MultiXpress X7 series

Drum, not tonerApprox. 220,000 pagesBlack onlyOriginal Samsung

The CLT-R806K is the original Samsung black imaging unit (OPC drum) for the MultiXpress X7400, X7500 and X7600 A3 colour multifunction printers. Samsung rates it at approximately 220,000 pages. This is not a toner cartridge and contains no toner: it will not clear a toner-empty message, and fitting a new toner will not fix a worn drum. HP now supplies this part under order code SS678A.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Make sure this is the part you need — there are four consumables on this machine and only one of them is what you probably want.

• Toner (CLT-K806S black, CLT-C/M/Y806S colour) — the routine consumable. Black is rated at about 45,000 pages, each colour at about 30,000. Replace when a colour reports empty or print goes faint.
• Black drum — this part (CLT-R806K), about 220,000 pages. Roughly one drum for every five black toners.
• Colour drum (CLT-R806X), about 180,000 pages — see the note below, because it is one combined unit for cyan, magenta and yellow.
• Waste toner container (CLT-W806), about 71,000 pages.

When you need a drum rather than a toner: the panel reports imaging-unit life end, or you see the same mark repeating at a fixed interval down every page, vertical black or white streaks that persist after a toner change, background greying, or washed-out density that new toner did not fix. If print simply fades or goes patchy and a toner change fixes it, it was never the drum. If only one colour is wrong, look at that colour’s toner or at the colour drum, not this one.

???? CLT-R806C, CLT-R806M and CLT-R806Y do not exist. Aftermarket sellers advertise those three part numbers, and some list this black drum as “magenta” or quote 320,000 pages. Samsung sold exactly two drums for this platform: CLT-R806K for black and CLT-R806X as a single combined cyan/magenta/yellow unit.

Best For

✓ An X7400, X7500 or X7600 reporting imaging-unit life end
✓ Repeating marks or streaks that a new toner did not fix
✓ Background greying or washed-out density on black
✓ Stocking a spare for a machine still in daily production

Key Features

A drum, not a toner — and the difference costs money to get wrong
The OPC drum is the photosensitive cylinder the laser writes on. It wears out; toner runs out. On this machine one drum outlasts roughly five black toner cartridges. Ordering the wrong one on an A3 production device is an expensive mistake.

220,000 pages — and the basis matters
Samsung’s own measurement basis is A4/Letter long-edge feed, 4 pages per job, simplex, at 5% coverage. The four-pages-per-job figure is the one people miss: a machine doing lots of very short jobs wears a drum faster than the headline suggests, because each job costs drum rotations regardless of page count.

Not an ISO figure — we will say so
ISO/IEC 19752 covers monochrome toner cartridges and ISO/IEC 19798 covers colour toner cartridges. There is no ISO standard for drum yield. Any listing quoting an ISO figure for a drum has invented it. Treat 220,000 as a manufacturer estimate under the conditions above — Samsung’s own manual notes yields vary with print pattern and job mode.

The colour drum is one unit, not three
CLT-R806X (HP order code SS682A) covers cyan, magenta and yellow together, rated at about 180,000 pages. There are no separate C, M and Y drums for this platform, whatever an aftermarket listing says.

Genuine Samsung, now supplied through HP
Samsung sold its printer business to HP in 2017. This part survived the transfer — HP carries it in its own parts store as the “Samsung CLT-R806K Black Imaging Unit” under order code SS678A. The part is unchanged; the company behind it is not.

On ISO Standards ISO/IEC 19752 does not apply. That standard covers monochrome toner cartridges; ISO/IEC 19798 covers colour toner cartridges. No ISO drum-yield standard exists. This is a manufacturer estimate.
Samsung’s Own Caveat “Depending on the print pattern and job mode used, the consumable’s lifespan may differ.” Short jobs are harder on a drum than the page count suggests.
Colour Drum Yield CLT-R806X — approximately 180,000 pages, on the same basis

A Note on the LX Models Our previous listing named only the GX models. Samsung’s service manual covers all six as one platform sharing this consumable set, so the LX variants take it too.
SL- Prefix “X7400GX” and “SL-X7400GX” are the same machine — SL- is simply Samsung’s own prefix.
The Full Consumables Set

Fuser ⚠️ JC91-01194A is the 220 V European part. JC91-01195A is the 110 V North American fuser and is the wrong part for Cyprus.

Warranty 1-Year Warranty (Singular)
Manufacturer Term None publishable. We could not locate an HP or Samsung EMEA warranty statement covering this Samsung-branded consumable, so we publish no manufacturer term. Singular’s direct warranty is 1 year.
Lifecycle
Platform The MultiXpress X7400 / X7500 / X7600 series dates from roughly 2014–2016. Samsung exited printing in 2017.
Status Still listed in HP’s parts store and stocked by European distributors, but almost certainly no longer in active production. Neither HP nor Samsung has published a discontinuation notice, so we describe it as genuine original stock of limited and legacy supply rather than claiming it is either current or discontinued.
A Note on Third-Party Claims
Invented Part Numbers ???? Aftermarket listings advertise CLT-R806C, CLT-R806M and CLT-R806Y. These do not exist. The colour drum is the single combined CLT-R806X.
Inflated Yield Some listings quote 320,000 pages. The manufacturer figure is 220,000.
Wrong Colour or Type One reseller sells this black drum as “magenta”; another titles it a “toner cartridge”. It is a black drum.
Order Code The HP order code is SS678A, matching HP’s own parts store. One Australian reseller lists SS680A; we treat that as an error.

Frequently Asked Questions

My printer says a colour is empty — is this the part I need?
No. This is the black drum and it contains no toner. If a colour has reported empty you need that colour’s toner cartridge: CLT-C806S, CLT-M806S or CLT-Y806S. Tell us the exact message and we will identify it.
How do I know the drum needs replacing?
Two signs. The panel reports imaging-unit life end, or you see the same defect repeating at a fixed interval down every page — the spacing corresponds to one rotation of the drum — along with streaks, background greying or washed-out density that a new toner did not fix.
Are there separate cyan, magenta and yellow drums?
No, and this is the most common error on this platform. Samsung sold two drums: CLT-R806K for black and CLT-R806X as a single combined unit for cyan, magenta and yellow. Part numbers CLT-R806C, R806M and R806Y are invented by aftermarket sellers.
Is the 220,000-page figure an ISO rating?
No. ISO/IEC 19752 and 19798 cover toner cartridges; there is no ISO drum-yield standard. Samsung’s figure is measured at A4 long-edge feed, 4 pages per job, simplex, 5% coverage, and its own manual warns that print pattern and job mode change it.
How often do I replace it compared with the toner?
Roughly once for every five black toner cartridges — 220,000 pages against the black toner’s 45,000.
Will it fit an LX model?
Yes. Samsung’s service manual covers the GX and LX variants of the X7400, X7500 and X7600 as one platform with a shared consumables set. Our previous listing named only the GX models, which understated it.
Is it still being made?
Probably not. The platform is a decade old and Samsung left the printer business in 2017. HP still carries the part and European distributors still stock it, but treat supply as finite — and if you run one of these machines, it is worth ordering the toner set at the same time.
Singular Expert Insight
On an A3 production machine the four-consumable structure is where the money gets wasted, because the panel rarely says plainly which one you need. The rule of thumb worth remembering: faint or patchy print is toner; repeating marks and streaks that survive a toner change are the drum. And on this platform specifically, the thing to know before you order is that there are only two drums — black, and one combined colour unit — despite what aftermarket listings claim. Two practical notes. Watch the yield basis: 220,000 pages is measured at four pages per job, so a department printing single sheets all day will get less. And if you cross-sell a fuser, make sure it is the 220 V JC91-01194A and not the 110 V North American part — that mistake is expensive and not returnable once fitted. Browse our original toner range, or our colour laser printers if the machine is nearing replacement.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

Your MultiXpress X7400, X7500 or X7600 is reporting imaging-unit life end, or showing repeating black defects that a new toner did not fix.

Skip it if

The printer is reporting a colour empty or printing faint — you need a toner cartridge — or only a colour is affected, in which case it is the CLT-R806X colour drum or a colour toner.

Also consider

The CLT-R806X combined colour drum, the CLT-K806S black toner, the CLT-W806 waste toner container, or the 220 V JC91-01194A fuser.
