SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V3 1TB — 2,000 MB/s Read, IP65 Rugged, 47 Grams
Up to 2,000 MB/s readUSB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps)IP65 water and dust3 m drop rating
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V3 is a 1TB pocket drive rated at up to 2,000 MB/s read over a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connection. Part number SDSSDE70-1T00-G25 is the 1TB model. It is the rugged one in SanDisk’s portable range: an IP65 rating against dust and water jets, a three-metre drop rating, a carabiner loop moulded into the corner, and a body that weighs 46.9 g — light enough to hang off a camera bag and survive the day. Password protection with 256-bit AES is built in for anyone carrying work off site.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Two things to check before you order. First, the 2,000 MB/s figure needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) port, and that interface is rare — essentially desktop motherboards and add-in cards. No Mac, no iPad and no iPhone has one, and neither do most laptops; on the far more common 10 Gbps USB-C port the drive runs at roughly half. It works perfectly there, it is simply not a 2,000 MB/s drive on that machine. Second, only a USB-C to USB-C cable is in the box. There is no USB-A cable and no adapter, so a computer with only rectangular USB-A ports needs a cable you buy separately — and USB-A caps the drive at 10 Gbps in any case. SanDisk publishes an operating range of 0 °C to 45 °C, which is worth knowing before leaving it in a car here in summer. Tell us the machine and we will tell you the speed you will actually see.
Best For
✓ Photo and video work carried between locations
✓ Laptops and desktops with a 20 Gbps USB-C port
✓ Working outdoors where dust and water are a risk
✓ Carrying sensitive files that need a password
✓ A drive that hangs off a camera bag
✓ Fast backup of a project drive
Key Features
2,000 MB/s read on the right port
SanDisk publishes up to 2,000 MB/s read at this capacity over USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. On a 10 Gbps port you get about half — still quick, but the reason to buy this particular drive is a machine that can feed it.
IP65 and a three-metre drop rating
IP65 means dust cannot get in and the drive survives water jets — SanDisk quantifies it as 30 kPa water flow for three minutes. Combined with a three-metre drop rating, that covers the realistic accidents of location work: rain, mud, a fall off a tailgate.
256-bit AES password protection
You can lock the drive so its contents cannot be read without a password. For anyone carrying client material off site, this is the difference between losing a drive and reporting a data breach.
47 grams with a carabiner loop
85 × 51 × 9.9 mm and 46.9 g, with a loop moulded into the corner. It clips to a bag rather than living in one.

Singular Expert Insight
The V3’s 2,000 MB/s read is genuine and conditional, and the condition rules out most buyers: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 lives on desktop motherboards, not on Macs, iPads or the majority of laptops. If your machine has a normal 10 Gbps USB-C port, one of our 1,050 MB/s external SSDs will perform the same on it for less money — the honest reason to choose this drive on such a machine is IP65 and the three-metre drop rating rather than the headline speed. Against its own siblings, the split is clear: the Extreme PRO publishes a write figure and includes a USB-A cable, the V2 is the 1,050 MB/s version of the same rugged idea, and this V3 sits between them. If the drive will hold an archive rather than travel, a desktop external hard drive buys several times the capacity for the same money — slower, but archives do not need speed.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You work off a laptop with a 20 Gbps USB-C port, or you need a drive that survives rain, dust and a fall. IP65, a three-metre rating and built-in AES password protection make this the right drive for location work.
Skip it if
All your machines are Macs or have 10 Gbps USB-C — you will not reach 2,000 MB/s and a cheaper drive performs identically. Skip it too if you need a USB-A cable in the box, since none is included.
Also consider
The Extreme PRO if you need a published write speed and a USB-A cable included. A 1,050 MB/s Extreme V2 if your ports are 10 Gbps. An external hard drive if the job is bulk archiving rather than fast work.
