Compatibility — check before buying:
This drive has a USB-C connector and nothing else. It will not enter the rectangular USB-A port on a desktop or an older laptop, and no adapter is supplied. Two further points worth knowing before you order. First, SanDisk appears to be running this model out: its current site lists the family only in 128 GB and 256 GB, both showing as out of stock or notify-me, and the 64 GB page no longer resolves. Buy it because it suits you now, not because you expect to buy a matching one in a year. Second, three different SanDisk USB-C drives are easy to confuse: SDCZ460 is this one, SDCZ480 is the Ultra Slider at up to 300 MB/s at 64 GB, and SDCZ450 is an older model again. If a supplier quotes you a SanDisk Ultra USB-C without the part number, the quote is ambiguous — ask for the full code.

Only if the laptop has a USB-C port. There is no USB-A plug on this drive and no adapter is included. If your machine has the older rectangular sockets, you want a USB-A drive or a dual-ended model that carries both connectors.
Is this the 300 MB/s SanDisk USB-C drive?
No. That is the Ultra Slider, part number SDCZ480, which SanDisk publishes at up to 300 MB/s at 64 GB. This drive, SDCZ460, is published at up to 150 MB/s. The two are separate products with similar names, so check the part number if speed is what you are buying on.
Is it still in production?
SanDisk appears to be winding it down. Its current site offers the family only in 128 GB and 256 GB, both marked out of stock or notify-me, and the 64 GB page no longer resolves. There is no formal end-of-life notice, but treat it as a run-out product and do not count on buying a matching drive later.
Does it encrypt my files?
Not by itself. There is no hardware encryption in this drive. SanDisk offers password protection as software you download separately, and it protects only the files you actively place in it. Note also that SanDisk’s encryption software line has been through several changes and its current support status is in transition, so we would not recommend buying this drive specifically for encryption.

This is the plain, sensible USB-C stick: one connector, a retracting body, 4.3 grams, five years of SanDisk cover. If everything you own is USB-C and you want something that disappears into a pocket, it does the job. Two honest caveats. It is the slower of SanDisk’s current USB-C drives — the Ultra Slider is twice as fast at this capacity — and the 64 GB looks to be running out at SanDisk’s end, which matters if you were planning to standardise on it. If either point bothers you, the alternatives sit beside it in our USB flash drives range and we are happy to point you at the right one. For files you work from rather than carry, an external SSD is the right class of product.
