SAPPHIRE NITRO+ X870EA PhantomLink Polar Edition — AM5 X870E ATX motherboard
AMD X870E · AM5PCIe 5.0 GPU + 2× Gen5 M.2Wi-Fi 7 · 5GbE · 2× USB4PhantomLink GC-HPWR
The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ X870EA PhantomLink Polar Edition (52122-11-40G) is an ATX motherboard with the AMD X870E chipset and AM5 socket for Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 desktop processors, aimed at white-themed gaming and creator builds.
It combines a 16+2+1-phase (90 A) power design, PCIe 5.0 for the graphics card and two M.2 SSDs, two USB4 40Gbps ports, Wi-Fi 7 and 5 Gb Ethernet. Its signature feature is PhantomLink: a GC-HPWR graphics power slot that lets a compatible SAPPHIRE graphics card take its power through the motherboard, with no power cable on the card.
Before you order: PhantomLink cable-free GPU power only works with GC-HPWR graphics cards such as the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 9070 XT PhantomLink — any other graphics card still needs its own PCIe power cable as usual. Using M.2_1 drops the main x16 slot to PCIe 5.0 x8, and using M.2_3 disables the second x16 (Gen4 x4) slot.
What's in the Box
- 1 × SAPPHIRE NITRO+ X870EA PhantomLink Polar Edition motherboard (52122-11-40G)
- SAPPHIRE does not list the accessory bundle on its product page — ask us if you need to confirm specific items (antenna, cables, screws) before ordering
What It Means in Practice
- Drop-in platform for any current AM5 Ryzen CPU, with a long upgrade path on the AM5 socket.
- Up to four M.2 SSDs (two PCIe 5.0, two PCIe 4.0) plus four SATA ports, without extra adapters.
- Fast networking out of the box: 5 Gb Ethernet (Realtek RTL8126) and Wi-Fi 7 (320 MHz) with Bluetooth 5.4.
- Two rear USB4 40Gbps Type-C ports with DisplayPort Alt mode and 15 W charging, plus a 20Gbps front-panel Type-C header with 30 W PD.
- White Polar finish for coordinated white builds; Debug LEDs and an LED diagnostic display help troubleshoot boot problems.
What Will Not Work
- Intel processors, or AMD AM4 Ryzen CPUs (Ryzen 5000 and older)
- DDR4 memory — the board takes DDR5 only
- Cable-free GPU power with a normal graphics card — that needs a GC-HPWR (PhantomLink) card
- Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX cases — this is a full ATX (305 × 244 mm) board
Key Features
PhantomLink (GC-HPWR)
A 12V-2x6 connector on the board feeds compatible SAPPHIRE graphics cards through the slot — no visible GPU power cable.
PCIe 5.0 where it matters
PCIe 5.0 x16 for the GPU and two PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots from the CPU.
USB4 + 5GbE + Wi-Fi 7
2× USB4 40Gbps rear, 5 Gb LAN, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
16+2+1 phases, 90 A
Robust power delivery for Ryzen 9 processors.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a PhantomLink graphics card?
No. Any PCIe graphics card works in the x16 slot with its own power cable. PhantomLink only removes the cable when the card supports GC-HPWR.
Does my Ryzen 7000 work out of the box?
The board supports Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 desktop CPUs. If you want us to confirm the BIOS version for a specific CPU, send us the model.
Which M.2 slot should I use for the boot SSD?
For a PCIe 5.0 SSD use a CPU-connected Gen5 slot, but note that M.2_1 halves the GPU slot to x8. Ask us and we will suggest the best layout for your drives.
