Schwaiger Optical Digital Audio Cable — TOSLINK to TOSLINK, 1.5 m
TOSLINK ↔ TOSLINKOptical S/PDIF1.5 mBlack
The Schwaiger LWL2150533 is a 1.5 m optical digital audio cable with a TOSLINK plug on each end, for carrying the digital sound from a TV, DVD/Blu-ray player, console or set-top box to a soundbar, AV receiver or DAC. Schwaiger names DVD player to AV receiver with Dolby Digital or DTS as its typical use.
Optical means the audio travels as light, so there is no electrical connection between the two devices — no hum loops and no interference from nearby power cables. The plugs are robust plastic TOSLINK connectors that click into the square optical socket.
Before you order: Check that both devices have a full-size, square TOSLINK socket (often labelled OPTICAL or DIGITAL AUDIO OUT/IN). Small round 3.5 mm optical jacks (Mini-TOSLINK) need a different cable or an adapter.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Schwaiger optical digital audio cable (Lichtwellenleiter Anschlusskabel), TOSLINK plug to TOSLINK plug, 1.5 m, black — per Schwaiger
What It Means in Practice
- 1.5 m is the usual distance from a TV to a soundbar or from a player to a receiver on the same unit or shelf.
- Remove any transparent protective caps from the plug tips before inserting, then push the plug straight in until it clicks; the socket only accepts it one way round.
- On the TV or player, set the digital audio output to Auto/Bitstream for Dolby Digital or DTS surround, or to PCM for plain stereo, and select the optical input on the soundbar or receiver.
- Avoid sharp kinks and do not trap the cable behind furniture — the light path is in the cable, and a crushed or tightly folded cable loses the signal.
What Will Not Work
- HDMI ARC/eARC connections — this is an optical cable only; it does not plug into HDMI.
- Lossless and object-based formats such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos (TrueHD), DTS-HD MA and multichannel PCM — optical S/PDIF carries stereo PCM or compressed 5.1 (Dolby Digital, DTS) only.
- Coaxial digital (RCA) or analogue (RCA/3.5 mm) audio sockets — these are electrical, not optical.
- Devices with only a 3.5 mm Mini-TOSLINK jack, unless you add a TOSLINK to Mini-TOSLINK adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it carry Dolby Atmos from my TV?
Only the Dolby Digital core. Optical S/PDIF has no bandwidth for Dolby Atmos in TrueHD or for multichannel PCM; for those you need HDMI eARC. Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 work.
My TV shows no sound on the soundbar — what to check?
Select the optical input on the soundbar, set the TV digital audio output to Auto or PCM, and make sure the protective caps are off and both plugs have clicked in.
Does a more expensive optical cable sound better?
No. The signal is digital light; if the plugs seat properly and the cable is not crushed, the audio arriving is bit-identical.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Optical is still the simplest way to get digital sound from a TV or player into a soundbar or receiver that has no HDMI ARC — but it tops out at Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1. If your TV has run out of HDMI inputs for the sources themselves, an
HDMI video switcher is usually the next piece to add.
✓ Buy it if both devices have a square TOSLINK optical socket and you need 1.5 m of cable for stereo or Dolby Digital/DTS sound.
✕ Skip it if you need Dolby Atmos/lossless audio (use HDMI eARC), or one device has only a 3.5 mm Mini-TOSLINK or a coaxial jack.
→ Also consider the 0.75 m and 3 m versions of the same Schwaiger cable when your distance is different.
