STAEDTLER 149C — super soft coloured pencils, box of 24
24 coloursSuper soft leadWhite & black paperMade in Germany
The STAEDTLER 149C C24 is a box of 24 high-quality coloured pencils in the classic hexagonal shape, with a super soft lead that gives particularly high coverage — bright colours on white paper and on black paper — for hobby artists, teenagers and adults who colour.
Soft leads lay down colour in fewer strokes and blend more easily than a standard school pencil, and the 149C is specifically designed to stay bright on dark paper. The wood comes from certified, sustainably managed forests (PEFC) and the pencils are made in Germany.
What's in the Box
- 24 × STAEDTLER 149C super soft coloured pencils, assorted colours
- 1 × cardboard box
What It Means in Practice
- High coverage means rich colour in fewer layers — good for colouring books, illustration and mixed-media sketches.
- On black paper the colours stay visible and bright, which most school pencils cannot do.
- The hexagonal barrel does not roll off the table.
- STAEDTLER recommends the Mars double-hole sharpener 510 25 or the Noris tub sharpener 512 002.
What Will Not Work
- Watercolour effects — 149C pencils are not water-soluble.
- Very fine technical lines — a super soft lead wears faster and is meant for colour, not precision.
- Heavy-handed young children — for rough school use the break-resistant Noris colour 187 is the better choice.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The 149C is the step up from school pencils: softer, richer colour, and it works on black paper, which is a favourite for colouring books and creative projects. Use a good sharpener — soft leads reward a sharp, clean point. See our stationery range for sharpeners and other drawing supplies.
✓ Buy it if you want richer, softer colour than a school pencil, including on black paper.
✕ Skip it if you need watercolour effects or very fine lines, or the pencils are for small children who press hard.
→ Also consider STAEDTLER Noris colour 187 for school use, or STAEDTLER 3001 watercolour brush pens.
