StarTech.com SFP1000SXST — MSA 1G SX SFP
1 Gbps1000BASE-SXMSA uncodedUp to 550 m
The StarTech.com SFP1000SXST is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for multimode fibre, reaching up to 550 m at 850 nm over an LC duplex connection, with digital diagnostics. It is MSA-uncoded: it carries no brand coding, so it suits switches and media converters that accept standard third-party optics, such as many Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro and TP-Link models. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Because it is uncoded, switches that enforce their own brand of optics — common on Cisco, HPE Aruba and Extreme — may reject it or show warnings. For those, StarTech.com sells coded versions (for example SFPGESST for Cisco). It needs multimode fibre; for single-mode runs the SFP1000LXST is the LX version. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Send us your device model and the cable run and we check it before you order.
Best For
✓ Ubiquiti, NETGEAR and TP-Link SFP ports
✓ Media converters with SFP slots
✓ 1G links inside one building
✓ Multimode runs up to 550 m
✓ Spare optics for open switches
✓ NAS and server SFP ports
Key Features
No brand lock
MSA-uncoded, for switches that accept standard third-party optics without a vendor code.
Multimode fibre, short reach
Built for the short runs inside a building or data room over OM-grade multimode fibre. Reach depends on the fibre grade — check what is actually in your walls before you plan a link.
Monitoring you can read
Digital diagnostics (DDM) let the host report temperature, laser power and received light, so a dirty connector or a failing link shows up before users call.
Hot-swappable
Modules plug into a live port without shutting the switch down, so a link can be added or replaced during working hours. Seat it until it clicks and use the latch to remove it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it work in a Cisco switch?
Many Cisco switches check for Cisco-coded optics and may refuse an uncoded module. For Cisco, choose a Cisco-coded StarTech.com part, or send us the model and we check it.
What is the difference to SFP1000LXST?
SFP1000LXST is the uncoded LX version for single-mode fibre up to 10 km at 1310 nm. SFP1000SXST is for multimode fibre up to 550 m.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 module. The patch cord for the LC duplex connector, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
This module carries no brand coding. Switches that accept uncoded MSA optics, such as many Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro and TP-Link models, take it. Switches that lock out third-party optics — common on Cisco, HPE Aruba and Extreme — may refuse it or warn about it. Send us the model and we check it.
Singular Expert Insight
The SFP1000SXST is the optic we suggest for switches that do not lock out third-party modules — UniFi, NETGEAR, TP-Link and most media converters. If your switch is Cisco, HPE Aruba or Extreme, tell us the model first so we can match the coding. Every order is backed by Singular’s local support in Cyprus — if a link will not come up, send us the port status and we help you find out whether it is the module, the cable or the configuration. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your switch accepts uncoded MSA optics and you need 1G over multimode fibre.
Skip it if
Your switch enforces its own brand of optics, or your fibre is single-mode.
