The StarTech.com 177B-USBC-MULTIPORT is a compact USB-C multiport adapter that turns a single USB-C port on a laptop into a 4K 60Hz HDMI output, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, two USB-A 10Gbps ports, a USB-C port and an SD card reader, with up to 140W USB Power Delivery 3.1 pass-through. It is aimed at hybrid workers, travel kits and IT fleets with MacBook, Dell, Lenovo ThinkPad and HP laptops.

The USB-C port on the adapter is dual-role: it accepts a USB-C charger for up to 140W EPR pass-through charging, or works as a 10Gbps data port when no charger is connected. The SD slot supports SD, SDHC and SDXC UHS-I cards, and the Realtek RTL8156BG network chip supports PXE boot and Wake-on-LAN for managed deployments.

The space grey aluminium housing has a 20.3 cm attached cable and draws 15W (SPR) or 20W (EPR) from the pass-through budget. Driverless operation covers Windows 10/11 including ARM, macOS 13 to 26, Linux, iOS and iPadOS.

Compatibility note: The laptop USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for video and USB Power Delivery for pass-through charging; without PD the adapter still works but will not charge the laptop. Pass-through needs a separate USB-C charger connected to the PD input port. The single HDMI output supports one display.

With a 140W USB-C PD 3.1 charger connected, the adapter passes power through to the laptop after reserving 15–20W for itself. PD 3.0 laptops charge at up to 100W less the adapter consumption.
Can it drive two monitors?
No. The 177B has a single HDMI output for one 4K 60Hz display. For dual screens consider the 189B-USBC-MULTIPORT with two DisplayPort outputs (Windows, Linux, ChromeOS).
Does it work with an iPad Pro?
Yes. USB-C iPad Pro and iPad Air models support the HDMI output, USB ports, Ethernet and card reader through iPadOS without drivers.
