StarTech.com MCM10G6SSFP — 10GBASE-T Copper to 10G SFP+ Fiber Media Converter
RJ45 100M–10GOpen 10G SFP+ slot3.75W · unmanaged
The StarTech.com MCM10G6SSFP is an unmanaged media converter that links a 10GBASE-T copper network to 10G fiber through an open SFP+ slot, so a copper switch port or server NIC can reach a fiber backbone or another building. The RJ45 port auto-negotiates 100Mbps, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10Gbps, and the SFP+ slot takes the multimode or single-mode 10G module your link needs (for example 10GBASE-SR or 10GBASE-LR). Plug-and-play setup, 16K jumbo frames, full-duplex flow control and a 3.75W typical draw make it easy to deploy in wiring closets and edge locations.
Compatibility note: The SFP+ transceiver is not included — add a 10G SFP+ module matched to your fibre (multimode or single-mode) and the far-end equipment. StarTech.com specifies the fibre side for 10GbE (10GBASE-R); 1G SFP modules are not listed as supported. For 10GBASE-T on the copper side use Cat6A cabling for full 10Gbps up to 100 m. No PoE and no management interface.
Best For
Copper switch to fibre backbone
Linking buildings over fibre
Server rooms and wiring closets
Multi-Gig 2.5G/5G uplinks to fibre
Edge and on-prem cabinets
DIN-rail or chassis installs
Key Features
Copper to 10G fibre
Converts 100M–10GBASE-T copper (RJ45, auto MDIX) to 10G fibre via an open SFP+ slot for SR, LR or other 10G optics; reach depends on the module (StarTech.com lists up to 60 km).
Plug-and-play and multi-speed
Auto-negotiates 100Mbps and 1/2.5/5/10Gbps on the copper side, supports 16K jumbo frames and full-duplex flow control — one model for networks running different speeds.
Flexible, low-power mounting
Compact metal housing (94 × 70 × 26 mm) for standalone, wall, rack, DIN rail (ADJDINKIT) or StarTech MCM7/MCM15 chassis mounting; 3.75W typical from the included 5V universal adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which SFP+ module should I use with the MCM10G6SSFP?
Any standard 10G SFP+ optic that matches your fibre and the far end: 10GBASE-SR for multimode OM3/OM4 inside a building, 10GBASE-LR for single-mode up to 10 km, or longer-reach single-mode modules for campus links. The module is sold separately.
Can the copper side connect to a 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps switch?
Yes. The RJ45 port auto-negotiates 100Mbps, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10Gbps, so it links to Gigabit or Multi-Gig ports; throughput is then limited to the copper link speed.
Do I need two media converters for a link?
Only if both ends are copper. If the far end is a switch with a 10G SFP+ port, one converter with a matching optic is enough; for copper-to-copper over fibre, use a converter at each end.
Singular Expert Insight
The MCM10G6SSFP is the simple way to push a 10GBASE-T or Multi-Gig copper port onto fibre without replacing the switch — handy for a server room uplink, an inter-building run or a NAS in another floor. Because the slot is 10G-only, budget for a 10G SFP+ module rather than reusing old 1G optics, and use Cat6A patch leads from our
network cables range on the copper side. If you need VLANs or monitoring, a managed switch with SFP+ ports is the better tool.
✓ Buy it if you need to convert a 10GBASE-T or Multi-Gig copper port to a 10G fibre link with a module of your choice.
✕ Skip it if your fibre gear is 1G SFP, or you need PoE or remote management.
