The StarTech.com J9150A-ST is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver coded to work as an HPE J9150A, the short-reach 10GBASE-SR optic used in HPE Aruba and ProCurve switches. It runs at 850 nm over multimode fibre with an LC duplex connector, reaches up to 300 m and supports digital diagnostics. It suits IT teams replacing or adding 10G fibre links on HPE access and aggregation switches. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short LC patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded for HPE J9150A ports on Aruba/ProCurve switches. HPE’s Comware switches (5120, 5500, 5900) use the JD092B coding and BladeSystem uses 455883-B21 — those are different StarTech.com parts (JD092B-ST, 455883B21ST). It needs multimode fibre and an SR module at the far end; it will not link to a 1310 nm LR optic or over single-mode fibre, and StarTech.com does not publish 1G operation. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? How far will it reach?
StarTech.com publishes up to 300 m on multimode fibre at 850 nm. It does not break that down by fibre grade, so on older OM1/OM2 fibre plan for much shorter runs — send us the fibre grade and the length and we advise.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 SFP+ transceiver. The LC duplex patch cord, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
StarTech.com codes each module for one OEM family (shown in the table) and also lists MSA switches that accept uncoded modules, such as Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro and TP-Link.
