The StarTech.com CABSHELF1U is a 1U fixed cantilever shelf that mounts to the front rails of a 19-inch rack or cabinet and gives you a flat, steel platform for equipment that has no rack ears of its own — small routers, firewalls, modems, NVRs, mini PCs, media converters or power bricks, up to 15 kg in total.

Because it hangs from the front rails only, it works in 2-post open frames as well as 4-post cabinets, and it does not care how deep the rack is. The trade-off is depth: the tray is 178 mm (7 in) deep, so it is made for compact devices, not for full-size servers or deep switches.

• Turns 1U of front-rail space into a small equipment tray — ideal for the ISP router, a small firewall or a PoE injector that would otherwise sit on the floor of the cabinet.
• Mounts from the front with four screws; there is no rear support to line up, so installation takes a few minutes.
• The folded front lip and the raised rear lip stop devices from sliding off when you open the door or pull on a cable.
• It takes up exactly 1U, so it stacks neatly with patch panels, switches and blanking panels.

• Devices deeper than 178 mm or heavier than 15 kg — the shelf is not rated for that and will overhang.
• Rolling or sliding equipment out for service — this is a fixed shelf, not a sliding drawer.
• Racks with round or threaded (tapped) holes: the included hardware is M6 cage nuts for square-hole rails. For tapped M6 rails you would use only the screws.
• 10-inch racks — it is sized for 19-inch rails.
