The StarTech.com CABSHELF116 is a 1U, 40 cm (16-inch) deep cantilever shelf that mounts to the front rails of any 19-inch rack or cabinet and holds up to 20 kg, for anyone who needs to put non-rackable equipment such as a desktop switch, router, modem or small PC inside a rack.
Because it fixes to the front rails only, it works in 2-post open frames and wall-mount racks as well as 4-post cabinets. Downward-facing lips at the front and rear edges stiffen the tray and give a clean finish.
Before you order: the shelf fixes to the front rails only and extends 40 cm back. Make sure your rack or wall cabinet has at least that much free depth behind the front rails, and that the load stays within 20 kg.

What It Means in Practice
- 1U high: the shelf itself takes one rack unit; leave enough U above it for the device you place on it.
- Cantilever means the weight hangs from the front rails. Place heavier items towards the front, and keep the total at or below 20 kg.
- Works in 2-post racks, open frames and wall-mount cabinets where a four-point shelf will not fit.
- Solid tray — suitable for devices that vent sideways or forwards rather than through the base.
- M6 cage nuts are supplied, so square-hole rails are ready to go out of the box.
What Will Not Work
- Loads above 20 kg, such as rack UPS units or heavy servers.
- Racks or wall cabinets with less than about 40 cm free depth behind the front rails.
- 10-inch racks — the shelf is 19-inch wide.
- Devices that need airflow through the base — this tray is not vented; choose a vented shelf instead.
