The StarTech.com ICUSB234858I is an eight-port USB-to-serial hub for panels with a lot of legacy equipment: eight DB-9 ports, each switchable between RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485, on FTDI silicon, in an IP30 steel DIN-rail case with a 36 W universal adapter in the box. It connects PLCs, drives, meters, scales and instruments to one USB 2.0 port on a modern PC.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a serial adapter, not a USB hub: the eight ports are DB-9 serial. StarTech’s connector table also lists one USB-A port whose purpose it does not explain, so do not plan around it. The adapter is included (12 V / 3 A, plugs for NA, JP, UK, EU and ANZ); the unit can also run from 5 V USB power. StarTech does not publish how the per-port mode is selected or the RS-485 termination details. FTDI drivers cover current and legacy Windows, Linux and macOS.

Each DB-9 port is individually configurable as RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 (2-wire or 4-wire) at up to 921.6 kbps, with 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, odd/even/mark/space/none parity and a 2 KB buffer; per-port LEDs show mode, TX and RX.

15 kV Level 4 ESD protection on the ports, IP30 steel enclosure, 0–55 °C, 175,901-hour MTBF, screw-lock USB-B host port with a 2 m screw-lock cable included.
Powered and mountable
Universal 12 V / 3 A (36 W) adapter with five regional plugs, or 5 V USB power; built-in ears and DIN-rail brackets in the box.
