StarTech.com Quiet Case Fan — 92 x 25 mm, Dual Ball Bearing, 31.84 CFM, Under 22 dBA

92 x 25 mm standardDual ball bearing31.84 CFM at under 22 dBA4 mounting screws included

The StarTech.com Quiet Computer Case Fan, product ID FAN9X25TX3L, is a 92 x 25 mm chassis fan in the standard depth, for the very common 92 mm mount found in mid-tower cases, small servers, NAS enclosures and industrial chassis. It runs at 1800 RPM (±10%) for 31.84 CFM of airflow at under 22 dBA — the combination that makes it a genuinely quiet fan rather than a small fast one — and draws only 1.08 W from 12 V DC. The bearing is dual ball with an MTBF of 50,000 hours, and the connector is TX3, the 3-pin fan header with a tachometer wire, so the motherboard can read and report the speed. Four mounting screws are included. StarTech.com covers it with a 2-year warranty. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Check the mount and the header. This is a 92 x 92 mm fan, 25 mm thick — standard depth, so it fits any conventional 92 mm mounting position, but it will not go into a slim bracket sized for a 10 or 15 mm fan. The connector is TX3, a 3-pin header: it reports speed via the tachometer wire, but it is not a 4-pin PWM fan, so speed control depends on your motherboard offering DC voltage control on that header rather than PWM. It runs on 12 V DC only, so there is no USB or mains option. The published under 22 dBA at 1800 RPM is a genuinely low figure for this size, achieved by turning a larger blade more slowly — which also means it is an airflow fan rather than a high-static-pressure one, and it is better suited to open case ventilation than to being pushed through a dense radiator or a packed filter. Operating range is -10 °C to 80 °C.
Key Features

31.84 CFM at under 22 dBA
The point of a 92 mm fan: a larger blade moves the same air at a lower speed, and fan noise rises sharply with RPM. Under 22 dBA at 1800 RPM is the difference between a machine you notice and one you do not, without giving up meaningful airflow.

Dual ball bearing, MTBF 50,000 hours
Ball bearings outlast sleeve bearings, tolerate warm enclosures and can be mounted in any orientation including horizontally. 50,000 hours is around five and a half years of continuous running, which is the specification that matters in a machine that never gets switched off.

Standard 92 x 25 mm frame
The most widely supported size after 80 mm and 120 mm: mid-towers, compact servers, NAS boxes and industrial chassis all use it. Standard 25 mm depth and the standard screw pattern mean it is a straight swap for whatever is in there now.

TX3 3-pin connector with tachometer wire
The third wire reports actual RPM to the motherboard, so the fan appears in BIOS and monitoring software and a stall raises an alarm rather than going unnoticed until something overheats.

Four mounting screws in the box
A small thing that saves a trip to a drawer of assorted hardware. Replacement fans frequently arrive bare and the original screws are usually still in the old fan or lost in the case.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really quiet?
For its size and airflow, yes. Under 22 dBA at 1800 RPM is a low figure, and the reason is physics rather than marketing: a 92 mm blade at 1800 RPM moves as much air as a 60 mm blade spinning at over 4000, and noise climbs steeply with speed. In a normally ventilated case it should be inaudible over ambient room noise.
Can I control the speed?
Via DC voltage control on a 3-pin motherboard header, if your board offers it. This is a TX3 3-pin fan, not a 4-pin PWM fan, so PWM control is not available. Given the low noise at full speed, most people simply run it flat out.
Will it fit where my old 92 mm fan was?
If the old one was standard 25 mm depth, yes — the frame and screw pattern are standard. Check the depth: a few compact chassis use slim 92 mm fans of 10 or 15 mm, and this one will not fit those brackets.
Is it good for a radiator or a filtered intake?
Less so. A high-airflow, low-speed fan like this is designed for open case ventilation. Pushing air through a dense radiator or a clogged filter needs static pressure, which is a different fan design. For general chassis exhaust and intake it is exactly right.
Singular Expert Insight
The single most effective noise fix in a desktop is to replace small fast fans with larger slow ones, and 92 mm is the size that makes that possible in cases too tight for 120 mm. Under 22 dBA with nearly 32 CFM is a good trade — the same airflow from a 60 mm fan would be clearly audible and tonal. Ball bearings are the right call for anything that runs continuously or sits in a warm enclosure; sleeve bearings are cheaper and are what you replace after eighteen months. The two things to verify before buying are the depth, since a handful of compact chassis want a slim fan, and the header type, because this is 3-pin TX3 with tachometer reporting rather than 4-pin PWM. Browse our CPU coolers range for the wider cooling picture, and see our PC power supplies section for the rest of a build.
Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

You need a quiet 92 mm chassis fan for a mid-tower, small server, NAS or industrial enclosure, you want a ball bearing rather than a sleeve, and tachometer reporting on a 3-pin header.

Skip it if

You need PWM speed control — this is a 3-pin TX3 fan — or your chassis takes a slim 92 mm fan. Also skip it for high-static-pressure duty on a radiator or dense filter.

Also consider

80 mm and 120 mm case fans where the chassis mount differs, 4-pin PWM fans for motherboard-controlled cooling, or CPU coolers where the processor rather than the chassis is the heat source.
