StarTech.com CABSCREWM5 — M5 x 12 mm Rack Screws and Cage Nuts, 50-Pack, Silver
M5 thread50-packCage nuts + toolSilver
The StarTech.com CABSCREWM5 is a 50-pack of M5 x 12 mm rack mounting screws with matching square-hole cage nuts and a cage nut installation tool, used to fix servers, switches, patch panels, shelves and other rack-mount equipment into 19-inch or 10-inch racks and cabinets that use square-hole rails (the most common type in 19-inch server and network cabinets).
The screws are nickel-plated steel in silver with washers pre-installed, so they sit flat against rack ears without scratching them. Enough for 12 devices at four screws each, with spares — ideal for a new cabinet fit-out or for replacing lost hardware.
Before you order: M5 is not interchangeable with M6 or 10-32. Check the size your rack or device expects — M6 is the most common in European server and network cabinets, M5 is used in many smaller wall cabinets and some AV racks, and 10-32 in many US-made racks.
What's in the Box
- 50 × M5 x 12 mm screws (washers pre-installed)
- 50 × M5 cage nuts for square-hole rails
- 1 × cage nut installation tool
What It Means in Practice
- Fits cabinets whose square-hole rails and devices are specified for M5 hardware.
- Clip a cage nut into the square hole from the inside of the rail, then screw the device ear into it.
- 50 sets cover a full fit-out of a small cabinet, with spares for later changes.
- The silver nickel-plated finish suits light-grey cabinets and bare-metal rails.
What Will Not Work
- Racks or devices that require M6 or 10-32 screws — the thread will not match.
- Round-hole or already-tapped rails with the cage nuts (use the screws alone on tapped M5 rails).
- Heavy loads that the manufacturer of your server or rails wants on dedicated rail kits — screws hold ears, not full server weight on their own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these stainless steel?
No. StarTech.com specifies steel with a nickel-plated finish. For a black finish choose CABSCREWM5B.
How do I know if my rack needs M5 or M6?
Check the rack manual or the existing screws. M6 is more common in European 19-inch cabinets; if unsure, send us the cabinet model.
Is the tool really needed?
Not strictly, but it makes fitting and removing cage nuts much easier and prevents damage to fingers and rails.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
This is the standard silver M5 kit: screws, matching square-hole cage nuts and a tool in one bag. The only real decision is thread size — order M5 only if your rack or device calls for it, otherwise the M6 packs are the usual choice for European cabinets. Screws, cage nuts, shelves and cable managers are all in our
rack accessories range.
✓ Buy it if your square-hole rack uses M5 cage nuts and you want a complete set of screws, nuts and a tool.
✕ Skip it if your rack uses M6 (choose CABSCREWM6) or 10-32 (choose CABSCREW1032), or you need black hardware (CABSCREWM5B).
→ Also consider StarTech.com CABSCREWM5B (black M5 kit) and CABSCREWSM5 (100 spare M5 screws, no nuts).
Not sure which thread your rack uses? Send us the rack or cabinet model and we will tell you which pack you need.
