It runs on USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) with the ASIX AX88179A chipset, is bus powered and installs without drivers on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Linux. It supports Wake-on-LAN, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and jumbo frames up to 9K, and comes in a space gray ABS housing with a 30 cm attached cable.
Before you order: It needs a USB-C port with data. Jumbo frames are not supported on macOS.
What's in the Box
- 1 x StarTech.com US1GC30B2 USB-C network adapter with 30 cm attached cable
- No network cable is included
What It Means in Practice
- Plug in and get Gigabit wired networking without installing drivers on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS or Linux
- The 30 cm cable lets the adapter lie flat on the desk instead of hanging from the port
- Wake-on-LAN and VLAN tagging support managed corporate networks
- Jumbo frames up to 9K can speed up large transfers to NAS and servers on Windows and Linux networks configured for them
What Will Not Work
- It does not pass through charging, so it occupies the USB-C port while in use
- It will not fit USB-A ports without a separate adapter
- Jumbo frames do not work on macOS
- It will not exceed 1 Gbps on a 2.5GbE switch
