The Commuter is the light one in Targus's EcoSmart range: 860 grams, a main compartment that expands from 16 to 20 litres, and a fabric woven from 16 recycled water bottles under GRS certification. It is unusually well specified for a commuter bag - the laptop and main compartments both take a lock, there is a genuine RFID protective pocket, a hidden pocket on the back panel, an adjustable sternum strap and a USB-C connector for charging a phone in transit.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Targus rates it for 16" laptops and under, and titles it 15-16". There is a protective compartment for the laptop and a tablet compartment alongside it, though Targus does not publish a tablet size. Two things worth knowing before you order. Targus publishes no water-resistance claim for this bag - one UK retailer describes it as weather resistant, which is not the manufacturer's wording. And the recycled claim here is a bottle count with GRS certification, not a percentage: 16 recycled water bottles. Do not confuse it with the Zero Waste EcoSmart, which quotes 20 bottles, or the Coastline EcoSmart, which is a different bag again.
