Targus Mobile Elite TBB618GL — 15″–16″ Laptop Backpack
Fits 15″–16″ laptopsSafePort Sling drop protectionLockable main-compartment zipsLimited Lifetime Warranty
The Targus Mobile Elite TBB618GL is a black commuter backpack for laptops of 15 to 16 inches, built around Targus’s SafePort Sling suspension system that holds the machine away from the base of the bag so a dropped rucksack does not land on the laptop. Alongside the padded laptop bay it carries a soft-lined pocket for glasses or valuables, a front workstation panel with a key fob, two zipped side bottle pockets, an air-mesh back panel and shoulder straps, a trolley strap for stacking on wheeled luggage, and lockable zips on the main compartment. Targus lists it at 36 x 19 x 49 cm and 1.2 kg, with a water-resistant bottom and a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the case. The part number is TBB618GL. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Targus states the fit as 15″–16″ laptops and under on its European and UK pages; the “15.6-inch” figure that appears on some reseller listings is not a Targus figure. Two things Targus does not claim for this part and which are often copied across from siblings: there is no checkpoint-friendly / lay-flat design (that belongs to the US model TBB617GL) and there is no USB charging port. Targus also publishes no tablet-compartment for this backpack and no internal laptop-bay measurement, so if you need a guaranteed tablet slot or a device thicker than a typical 16-inch notebook, measure first. Finally, water resistance is limited to the bottom panel — this is not a waterproof shell and carries no IP rating.
Best For
✓ Daily commuting with a 15″ or 16″ work laptop
✓ Travellers who stack a backpack on rolling luggage
✓ Office users who want lockable zips on the main compartment
✓ Anyone who has dropped a bag and wants drop protection built in
✓ Carrying a laptop plus charger, files and a water bottle
✓ Buyers who value a lifetime warranty on the case itself
Key Features
SafePort Sling suspension for the laptop
The dedicated laptop compartment uses Targus’s SafePort Sling Protection System, which suspends the notebook clear of the bottom of the bag. If the backpack is set down hard or dropped, the impact is taken by the case rather than transmitted straight into the laptop.
Lockable zips and a hidden valuables pocket
The main compartment has lockable zippers so a small travel padlock can be fitted, and a separate soft-lined pocket takes glasses, a watch or a phone without scratching them. Metal zipper pullers and a metal logo patch handle the daily wear points.
Organised front workstation
A front panel holds pens, styluses, cards and a key fob, with an easy-access front pocket above it and further interior and exterior pockets in the main body. Two zipped side pockets expand to take water bottles.
Built for carrying and for travel
An air-mesh back panel and air-mesh shoulder straps keep airflow behind the pack, a top grab handle takes it off a conveyor or out of an overhead locker, and a trolley strap slides it over the handle of wheeled luggage. The bottom panel is water resistant.

Singular Expert Insight
The Mobile Elite is Targus’s middle tier: better protection and better hardware than the entry backpacks, without the price of the Pro-Tek or Citysmart flagship lines. What you are paying for here is the SafePort Sling and the lockable zips — if neither matters to you, a simpler 16-inch backpack will carry the same laptop for less. Two honest caveats: Targus publishes no fabric or denier for this bag, and its Asia-Pacific site lists slightly different dimensions and a 26 L capacity for the regional pack of the same design, so treat 36 x 19 x 49 cm as the European figure. The Targus catalogues also diverge by region, which is why the checkpoint-friendly TBB617GL is not sold here. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You carry a 15″ or 16″ laptop daily and want genuine drop protection, lockable zips and a trolley strap, backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the case rather than a one or two year term.
Skip it if
You need a checkpoint-friendly bag that lays flat at airport security, a dedicated tablet compartment, a USB charging port, or a fully waterproof shell. None of those are published for this part number.
Also consider
A Dell or DICOTA slim backpack if you want a thinner profile for a 14–16″ machine, a Targus rolling case if you carry heavy loads through airports, or a simple sleeve plus tote if you mostly work from one desk.
