Targus Octave III Backpack — TBB653GL

15–16" laptops22 LMesh back panelReflective accentsBlack

The Targus Octave III is a straightforward everyday backpack for a 15 to 16 inch laptop. It carries 22 litres, weighs 550 grams empty, and keeps the layout simple: a padded laptop compartment, an accessory workstation, two front stash pockets and two side bottle pockets.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Targus specifies 15" to 16" laptops. Note that Targus publishes two external dimension sets that do not agree — the US site gives 12.5 x 7 x 17 in, which works out to a 17.8 cm depth, while the Asia-Pacific site gives 44.5 x 32 x 13 cm, a 13 cm depth. The two figures are 4.8 cm apart. Both are listed in the specifications below exactly as published.

Best For

✓ Students and commuters with a 15–16" laptop
✓ Anyone who wants a light backpack rather than a padded fortress
✓ Warm-weather commuting where a ventilated back panel helps
✓ Walking or cycling in low light

Key Features

Padded laptop compartment
A dedicated protected section for a 15 to 16 inch laptop, separate from the main storage volume.

Accessory workstation
An organiser panel for pens, cables, a power bank and small items so they are not loose in the main compartment.

Two front stash pockets
Quick-access pockets on the front for a phone, a transit card or keys.

Two water bottle pockets
One on each side, so a bottle and an umbrella can travel at the same time.

Mesh back panel
A ventilated back panel reduces heat build-up against your back on a warm commute.

Reflective accents
Reflective detailing improves how visible you are to traffic after dark.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size laptop fits?
Targus specifies 15 to 16 inch laptops for the Octave III.
How big is it really?
That depends which Targus page you read: the US site gives 12.5 x 7 x 17 in and the Asia-Pacific site 44.5 x 32 x 13 cm. The depth differs by 4.8 cm between them. The 22 litre capacity figure appears only on the US site.
Is it made from recycled materials?
No. Targus publishes 600d polyester for this reference and makes no recycled-content claim for it.
Does it have a trolley strap?
Targus does not publish a trolley pass-through for the Octave III.
Can I carry two bottles?
Yes — there is a water bottle pocket on each side.
Does it come in another colour?
TBB653GL is black. Targus also lists TBB65302GL, the same backpack in Blue Fog.
Singular Expert Insight
The Octave III is a sensible, unshowy commuter backpack: 22 litres, half a kilo, a ventilated back panel and enough pockets to stay organised without paying for features you will not use. The published dimensions are the one thing to watch — Targus contradicts itself by nearly five centimetres of depth, so if you need it to slide into a specific locker or overhead space, measure rather than trust the spec sheet.
