Transcend JetFlash 350 8 GB — Slim USB 2.0 Drive in Classic Black

8 GBUSB 2.061.5 x 18.6 x 8.7 mm, 8.5 g5-year Transcend warranty

The Transcend JetFlash 350 is an 8 GB flash drive in a slim black body measuring 61.5 x 18.59 x 8.7 mm and weighing 8.5 g. It is a USB 2.0 drive — the single most important thing to know before buying — and 8 GB puts it firmly in the territory of boot media, firmware files and documents rather than photo libraries. Transcend backs it with a five-year limited warranty.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a USB 2.0 drive, not USB 3. It plugs into any modern port and works, but it transfers at USB 2.0 speed whatever it is plugged into. At 8 GB that is rarely a problem — you are not moving film files on a drive this size — but be clear about what you are buying. The reason it matters is that the JetFlash 350 body is identical in size to Transcend’s USB 3 drives: the JetFlash 700 and 730 measure 61.5 x 18.6 x 8.7 mm and weigh 8.5 g, the same figures to the tenth of a millimetre, and all of them are black. A photograph cannot tell them apart. Check the model number, not the picture. This is also a USB Type-A plug, so a phone would need an adapter that is not included. Note finally that the white version of this drive is sold as the JetFlash 370, which Transcend makes only in 32 GB and 64 GB — so there is no white 8 GB in this family.

Best For

✓ Boot, install and recovery media that lives in a drawer
✓ Firmware and configuration files for machines that only read USB 2.0
✓ Handing out documents at an event or a class, cheaply and in quantity
✓ Car stereos, older equipment and industrial machines with USB 2.0 ports
✓ A small dedicated drive for one job rather than general storage
✓ Anyone who wants a five-year manufacturer term at the lowest price point

Key Features

Slim and light
61.5 x 18.59 x 8.7 mm and 8.5 g. Thin enough not to block the socket beside it, and short enough not to lever itself out of a laptop in a bag.

The right size for a single job
8 GB is enough for a Windows installer, a Linux live image, a firmware update or a folder of documents. Buying more capacity than the job needs is money spent on space you will not fill.

Five-year limited warranty
Transcend publishes five years across its JetFlash range, this drive included. At this price point a five-year manufacturer term is unusual.

Transcend Elite software
A free download for the host computer offering backup and restore, file encryption and cloud backup. The drive itself needs no software to work as plain storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a USB 2.0 drive still work in a modern laptop?
Yes. USB 2.0 devices work in USB 3 ports with no adapter and no drivers. What does not change is the speed — the drive runs at USB 2.0 rates in any port. On an 8 GB drive that is a matter of a few minutes at worst, which is why the older interface is a reasonable trade at this capacity.
How do I avoid buying this when I wanted a USB 3 drive?
Check the model number. The JetFlash 350 shares its exact dimensions and weight with the USB 3 JetFlash 700 and 730, and all three are black. Nothing in a photograph distinguishes them.
Is 8 GB enough for a Windows installer?
For most current Windows installation media, yes — the standard image fits comfortably. Very large custom images or multi-boot setups need more room. Tell us what you are building and we will say whether 8 GB is enough or whether you should go up a size.
Is there a white version at 8 GB?
No. Transcend sells the white version of this drive as the JetFlash 370 and makes it only in 32 GB and 64 GB. At 8 GB the black JetFlash 350 is the only option in this family.
Singular Expert Insight
There is still a good case for a small USB 2.0 drive, and it is this: a dedicated stick for one job that lives in a drawer, gets used twice a year, and costs almost nothing. Boot media, a firmware update, a set of documents for a meeting. Buying 128 GB for that job wastes money on space you will never fill. What makes the JetFlash 350 worth a warning rather than a shrug is that Transcend gave it the same body as its USB 3 drives, so the mistake is easy to make and immediately obvious once you start copying. If speed matters at all, the JetFlash 790 and the faster models in our USB flash drives range are where to look. And for anything you intend to work from rather than carry, an external SSD is the right class of product.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You need a cheap 8 GB stick for boot media, firmware or documents, speed genuinely does not matter at this size, and a five-year Transcend term appeals.

Skip it if

You will copy large folders or video to it — USB 2.0 will frustrate you. Or you assumed it was USB 3 because it looks exactly like Transcend’s USB 3 drives.

Also consider

Transcend JetFlash 790 or 700 for the same size body with a USB 3 interface. A larger JetFlash 350 capacity if 8 GB is tight. Any 32 GB or 64 GB JetFlash 370 if you want white.
