Transcend JetFlash 790 32 GB — Capless Slide-Out Drive in Black

32 GBCapless slide-outLanyard and keyring loop5-year Transcend warranty

The Transcend JetFlash 790 is a 32 GB USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash drive — the same 5 Gbit/s link now more commonly labelled USB 3.2 Gen 1 — with a capless slide-out connector and a loop for a lanyard or keyring. This is the black version, part number TS32GJF790K. It measures 63.6 x 21.2 x 10.6 mm and weighs 9 g, and Transcend backs it with a five-year limited warranty.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a USB Type-A drive. The part number to be careful of is TS64GJF790C and its siblings: the JetFlash 790C has the identical body, weight and slide-out mechanism but carries a USB Type-C plug instead, not as well as. Order the C by mistake and it will not fit a single rectangular USB port on your laptop. Watch out too for the JetFlash 350, which is almost exactly the same size, also black, and is USB 2.0 — a photograph will not tell you which is which. On speeds: Transcend publishes no read or write figure for the JetFlash 790 in its product sheet, at any capacity, so no number appears on this page. Finally, the drive is listed for macOS, Windows and Android, but a phone connection would need a USB-C adapter that is not included.

Best For

✓ Everyday transport of documents, presentations and photographs
✓ Lanyard or keyring carry — the loop is part of the body
✓ Anyone who has lost a cap and wants a slider instead
✓ Install, boot and recovery media kept in a drawer
✓ Handing files between office and home machines with USB-A ports
✓ Buyers who want a five-year manufacturer term at a modest price

Key Features

Capless slide-out connector
The plug slides out of the housing for use and back in afterwards. Nothing detaches, so there is no cap to lose — the single most common way a flash drive gets ruined.

Lanyard and keyring loop
Transcend builds a loop into the body, so the drive can hang from a lanyard or a keyring instead of rattling loose in a bag.

Five-year limited warranty
Transcend publishes five years on the current JetFlash 790 product sheet. That is at the long end of the market and is the same term across the whole JetFlash range.

Transcend Elite software
A free download rather than something on the drive: backup and restore, file encryption and cloud backup, run from the host computer. The drive itself works with no software at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is no transfer speed shown?
Because Transcend does not publish one for the JetFlash 790. Its current product sheet carries no read or write figure at any capacity, only a note that speed varies with the host hardware and the capacity. Third-party listings do circulate numbers for this drive; none of them come from Transcend, so we leave the line empty rather than repeat them.
What is the difference between the JetFlash 790 and the 790C?
The connector, and only the connector. The 790C has the same body, the same 9 g weight and the same slide-out mechanism, but its plug is USB Type-C rather than Type-A. It is not a dual-ended drive. If your laptop has rectangular USB ports, the 790 is the one you want.
What do the K and W at the end of the part number mean?
Colour. Transcend sells the JetFlash 790 in black and white, and pairs the part numbers accordingly — the K version, which is this one, is the black drive and the W version is white. Everything else about them is identical.
Is it faster than a Transcend JetFlash 350 of the same size?
Substantially, yes, because the 350 is a USB 2.0 drive and this is a 5 Gbit/s USB 3 drive. The catch is that the two look very similar and are close in size, so check the model number rather than the photograph. Neither has a published speed figure.
Singular Expert Insight
The JetFlash 790 is Transcend’s no-drama workhorse: a slider so there is no cap to lose, a loop so it can be tethered, and a five-year term behind it. What you are not getting is a number to compare — Transcend simply does not publish speeds for this family, which is unusual honesty in one sense and unhelpful in another. If a stated MB/s figure is part of how you choose, brands like Kingston, MediaRange and Silicon Power publish theirs across our USB flash drives range. At 32 GB this is a sensible size for install media and documents rather than a media library; the same drive runs to much larger capacities if you need one. For working files rather than carried files, an external SSD is the right tool.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want a robust, cap-free 32 GB USB-A stick with a lanyard loop and a five-year manufacturer term, for documents, installers and boot media.

Skip it if

You compare drives on published MB/s figures, because Transcend gives none for this family. Or you need a USB-C connector, or more than 32 GB.

Also consider

Transcend JetFlash 790C if your machines are USB-C. The white TS32GJF790W if you prefer the lighter colour. A larger JetFlash 790 capacity if 32 GB is tight.
