TRENDnet 10GBASE-T to SFP+ Fiber Media Converter
10 GigabitRJ45 10G/1GOpen SFP+ slotLink Fault Pass-Through
The TRENDnet TFC-10GSFP is a 10 Gigabit media converter that links a 10GBASE-T copper port to fiber through an open SFP+ slot. It lets a server, NAS or switch with a 10G RJ45 port reach another rack, floor or building over multimode or single-mode fiber, using the SFP+ module of your choice.
It is a small fanless metal box with an external 5 V adapter: no configuration, no management interface, just copper in and fiber out. Typical buyers are IT teams connecting a 10G NAS or hypervisor host to a fiber backbone, or bridging two 10G switches where one side only has copper ports.
Before you order: No SFP+ module is included. Choose a 10G module for your fiber — 10GBASE-SR for multimode or 10GBASE-LR for single-mode — that matches the module at the far end. TRENDnet states that Ethernet and SFP speeds must match to establish a link: for a 10G link use a 10G copper partner and a 10G SFP+; for 1G use a 1G partner and a 1G module.
What's in the Box
- 1 × TRENDnet TFC-10GSFP media converter
- 1 × power adapter (5 V DC, 1.5 A)
- 1 × Quick Installation Guide
- No SFP+ module, fiber patch cord or network cable included
What It Means in Practice
- Gives a copper-only 10G device a fiber uplink without buying a new switch or NIC.
- Copper side: use Cat6A (or better) cabling for 10GBASE-T; keep the patch cable to the converter short and of good quality.
- Link Fault Pass-Through (LFPT) brings the copper link down when the fiber fails, so the attached server or switch sees the outage and can fail over.
- Fanless, 4 W maximum consumption, metal housing (105 × 75 × 22 mm, 188 g) — silent enough for an office rack or wiring closet.
- LEDs for 10G/5G link, 2.5G/1G link, activity and power on the front panel.
What Will Not Work
- Mixing speeds — a 10G copper port with a 1G SFP (or the reverse) will not link.
- Working without an SFP+ or SFP module — the fiber side is an empty slot.
- PoE — the RJ45 port does not supply power.
- VLAN or management features — this is an unmanaged converter.
- Long copper runs on Cat5e at 10G — 10GBASE-T needs Cat6A for full distance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which SFP+ module should I use?
For 10G: 10GBASE-SR on multimode fiber, 10GBASE-LR on single-mode. It must match the module at the other end of the fiber.
Does it support 2.5G or 5G copper?
TRENDnet’s specification table lists the RJ45 port as 10G/1G, and the SFP speed must match the copper speed. Plan on 10G or 1G links.
Can two TFC-10GSFP units be used as a pair?
Yes — one at each end with matching SFP+ modules gives a 10G copper-to-copper link over fiber.
Is it rack-mountable?
TRENDnet does not publish a rack or wall-mount kit for this model; it is a standalone desktop unit.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For a single 10G link this is often cheaper than replacing a switch or adding a fiber NIC. The rule that catches people out is speed matching: a 10G copper device needs a 10G SFP+ module, not a 1G SFP. If you are wiring several 10G fiber links, a switch with SFP+ ports from our
switches with SFP ports range will be tidier than a stack of converters.
✓ Buy it if you need to connect a 10GBASE-T server, NAS or switch to a 10G fiber link.
✕ Skip it if your devices already have SFP+ ports (use a DAC or modules directly) or you need multi-gig 2.5G/5G conversion.
→ Also consider Intellinet 508193 (10GBase-T to 10GBase-R converter) or a switch with SFP+ uplinks.
