The TRENDnet TEG-MGBRJ/2 is a pack of two 1000BASE-T copper SFP modules that turn an SFP port into a Gigabit RJ45 port, so you can connect a standard Ethernet cable of up to 100m to a switch, router or firewall SFP slot.
It is the simple way to use spare SFP slots for copper connections — for example an extra server or a link to a switch that has no fibre. The modules are hot-pluggable in a metal housing and draw at most 0.9W each.
Before you order: Needs an MSA-compliant 1G SFP port. Some switch vendors lock their SFP ports to their own modules — send us your switch model and we will check before you order.

What It Means in Practice
- Use spare SFP uplink slots on a switch or router for copper Gigabit links instead of buying fibre modules and media converters.
- Standard Ethernet cable (Cat5e or better) between the module and the other device, up to 100m.
- Two modules in the pack: one for each of two ports, or one in use and one spare.
- Hot-pluggable — insert or remove without restarting the switch.
What Will Not Work
- They do not work in SFP+ ports that only run at 10G — check that your port supports 1G SFP modules.
- They are Gigabit (1000BASE-T) modules; TRENDnet does not publish 10/100 support, so do not plan on connecting older 100Mbps-only devices.
- They do not give 10 Gigabit — for 10G copper you need a 10GBASE-T SFP+ module.
- Copper runs are limited to 100m; for longer distances use fibre modules.
