The TRENDnet TEG-10GBSR is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver of the 10GBASE-SR type, reaching 300 m on OM3 multimode fibre at 850 nm over a duplex LC connection, with digital diagnostics and a low 439 mW power draw. It is built to the SFP+ MSA for TRENDnet managed switches and other SFP+ ports, and is used for uplinks and server links inside a building. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.

Compatibility — check before buying:
TRENDnet publishes 300 m on OM3 for the current version — not the 550 m sometimes quoted — and the reach drops to 82 m on OM2 and 33 m on OM1. It is a 10G module and will not link in a 1G-only SFP port or to a 1G SX module. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Does it reach 550 m?
No. TRENDnet publishes 300 m on OM3 for the current hardware version, 82 m on OM2 and 33 m on OM1. Measure the run and check the fibre grade.
Will it work in a 1G SFP port?
No. It is a 10G SFP+ module and needs a 10G port and a 10G SR module at the other end.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get the TEG-10GBSR module. The patch cord for the Duplex LC connector, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
TRENDnet builds the module to the SFP MSA. Switches that lock out third-party optics may refuse it — send us the model and we check it.
