The TRENDnet TEG-25GECTX is a single-port 2.5GBASE-T PCIe network adapter that upgrades a desktop PC or server to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet over existing Cat5e or better cabling, using a PCIe x1 slot.

It auto-negotiates 2.5G, 1G, 100M and 10M, ships with both standard and low-profile brackets, and supports VLAN tagging, jumbo frames and Wake-on-LAN.

Before you order: TRENDnet lists Windows 11/10/8.1 and Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012 drivers. Linux and macOS are not on TRENDnet's support list.

What It Means in Practice

  • Around 2.5x Gigabit speed to a 2.5GbE NAS, switch or router, without replacing Cat5e cabling.
  • The low-profile bracket in the box lets it go into slim SFF desktops as well as towers.
  • Only a PCIe x1 slot is needed, leaving larger slots for graphics or storage cards.
  • On an ordinary Gigabit switch it runs at 1 Gb/s, so it can be fitted ahead of a switch upgrade.

What Will Not Work

  • It will not run 5GbE or 10GbE — 2.5 Gb/s is the maximum.
  • It will not reach 2.5 Gb/s if the switch or router port is 1GbE only.
  • Linux and macOS are not in TRENDnet's supported OS list.
  • It has no SFP cage for fibre.

TRENDnet only lists Windows and Windows Server. If you plan to use Linux, ask us first and we will suggest a card with official Linux support.
