The TRENDnet TEG-MGBS10D5 is a Gigabit bidirectional SFP module that runs a full link over one single-mode fibre strand, up to 10 km, with a simplex LC connector. It transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm, so it is one half of a pair: the other end of the link takes the TEG-MGBS10D3. In practice, bidirectional optics are used where fibre is scarce — a leased dark-fibre strand, a full duct or an old building link. Before you order, confirm which end of the strand gets which module type and that the fibre is single-mode all the way.

Compatibility — check before buying:
A link needs one D5 and one D3 — two D5 modules will not link, and it will not talk to a standard two-fibre LX module. The connector is a single LC/UPC, so use a simplex UPC patch cord, not APC. One article is one module; order the TEG-MGBS10D3 for the other end. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? What do I order for the other end?
The TEG-MGBS10D3, which transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm. A D5 at one end and a D3 at the other make one link.
Will it link to a normal LX module?
No. A standard LX module uses two strands at 1310 nm. BiDi modules only link to their opposite partner on one strand.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 module (one end of the link) and a quick installation guide. The patch cord for the LC/UPC simplex connector, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
TRENDnet builds this module to the SFP MSA and names no vendor-specific coding. Switches that accept standard third-party optics take it; switches that lock out third-party optics may refuse it — send us the model and we check it.
