The TRENDnet TI-G642i is a Layer 2 managed industrial switch with four Gigabit RJ45 ports and two 100/1000 SFP slots, designed for DIN-rail control cabinets where you need VLANs, QoS and fast ring redundancy rather than simple plug-and-play switching.
It supports ERPS (G.8032v2) rings, RSTP, Modbus/TCP and SNMP monitoring, runs fanless from -40 to 75°C in an IP30 metal case, and takes 20-60V DC on dual inputs with an alarm relay. Typical uses: SCADA and PLC networks, traffic and utility cabinets, fibre rings between buildings.
Before you order: No power supply is included — connect a 20-60V DC source (TRENDnet lists TI-M6024, TI-S12024, TI-S12048, TI-S24048). There is no PoE on any port.

What It Means in Practice
- Build a self-healing fibre or copper ring: with ERPS, a cut cable is bypassed in a fraction of a second, so the process network stays up.
- Separate machine, camera and office traffic with 802.1Q VLANs (256 groups) and prioritise control traffic with QoS.
- Modbus/TCP and SNMP let your SCADA or NMS read port and power status; SFP DDMI shows fibre module health.
- Manage it by web GUI, CLI (Telnet/SSHv2) or SNMP v1/v2c/v3.
What Will Not Work
- No PoE — it will not power cameras or access points.
- Not a router: there is no Layer 3 routing between VLANs.
- No AC input — it needs a DC supply; 12V DC is below its input range.
- Wall mounting is not listed by TRENDnet — DIN rail only.
- SFP modules are not included.
