The TRENDnet TL2-F7120 is a 1U Layer 2 managed switch with twelve 10G SFP+ slots, built as a compact 10 Gigabit aggregation or core switch for server rooms, storage networks and fibre backbones in small and mid-size businesses.

All twelve slots accept 10G SFP+ and 1G SFP modules, giving 240 Gbps of non-blocking switching. Management covers 802.1Q VLANs, LACP, RSTP/MSTP, QoS, ACLs, IGMP/MLD snooping and IPv4/IPv6 static routing, through a web GUI or CLI over console, Telnet and SSH.

Before you order: There are no RJ45 data ports: every connection needs an SFP+ or SFP module, or a DAC cable. Modules and DAC cables are not included — tell us your servers, NAS and uplink switches and we will match the optics.

What It Means in Practice

  • Aggregate several access switches over 10G fibre or DAC, or connect servers and NAS units at 10G.
  • Use 1G SFP modules in any slot for older fibre links and move to 10G later.
  • Inter-VLAN routing with static routes lets the switch route between server, storage and user VLANs without a separate router for internal traffic.
  • Out-of-band RJ45 console for setup and recovery.

What Will Not Work

  • No RJ45 copper data ports — RJ45 devices need 10GBASE-T SFP+ or 1000BASE-T SFP modules.
  • No PoE.
  • No dynamic routing protocols (OSPF/BGP) — routing is static only.
  • Not fanless: one smart fan (up to 38.6 dBA), better suited to a rack than an open office.

Yes — every slot accepts 1G SFP as well as 10G SFP+ modules, so you can mix speeds.
Does it route between VLANs?
Yes, with IPv4/IPv6 static routing and inter-VLAN routing; dynamic routing protocols are not listed.
Which cables do I need for short rack links?
10G SFP+ DAC cables are the simplest option for links inside the rack; fibre modules for longer runs. Ask us for compatible parts.
