The TRENDnet TU2-ET100 is a compact USB 2.0 to Fast Ethernet adapter with a short 105 mm cable. It plugs into a USB-A port and gives a laptop, ultrabook, tablet or desktop PC a wired Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) connection through one RJ45 socket. It adds a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port, runs full duplex (TRENDnet quotes up to 200 Mbps in both directions combined) and takes its power from the USB port. The current hardware version is v6; installation is driver-based on older systems and a quick installation guide is included. A cable connection is the practical answer when Wi-Fi is weak or crowded, when a laptop has no network port, when the built-in port has failed, or when a PC needs a second network interface.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Compatibility — check before buying: USB-A plug: laptops with only USB-C ports need a USB-C to USB-A adapter, or the USB-C version of this adapter. Fast Ethernet only: the maximum is 100 Mbps. That is enough for internet up to 100 Mbit/s, printers and remote desktops, but not for fibre broadband above 100 Mbit/s or large file copies — for those choose a Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter. TRENDnet lists Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 and Mac OS 10.6 to 10.13 on the product page; drivers for macOS up to 10.15 are on the support page. Windows 11 is not listed. Not sure it suits your device?
