UniFi 5G Max — a 5G uplink for your UniFi network, on the desk or the wall

5G NR up to 3.4 Gbps2.5 GbE PoE1.3″ touchscreenDesk, wall or window

The Ubiquiti UniFi 5G Max is a cellular modem — Ubiquiti’s own term — that gives a UniFi console or Cloud Gateway a 5G internet connection, either as the main line or as failover behind a fixed one. It is an indoor unit with four embedded antennas and a 1.3-inch touchscreen on the front that shows signal and status without opening an app. A single 2.5 GbE cable carries both the network link and the power, so it can sit on a desk, hang on a wall, or stick to a window where the signal is strongest. Adoption happens in the UniFi interface, so the WAN ends up managed in the same place as the switches and access points rather than in a separate portal.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a modem, not a router: it needs a UniFi console or Cloud Gateway behind it to do the routing, firewalling and Wi-Fi. It has one 2.5 GbE port that carries data and PoE power together, so you need a PoE source — usually a UniFi PoE switch port. Ubiquiti markets it as adopting through “any UniFi PoE port” and does not publish a full box list or the 802.3 PoE class, so we do not promise an injector in the carton; if you have no spare PoE port, tell us and we will quote one alongside. A SIM and 5G coverage at the install point are not included. This is an indoor unit — it is rated 0 °C to 40 °C and carries only an IK04 impact rating, with no weatherproofing at all.

Best For

✓ Sites with no fixed line, or a slow one
✓ Failover WAN behind an existing UniFi gateway
✓ Offices and shops where signal is fine indoors
✓ Temporary offices, pop-ups and short-term sites
✓ Networks already managed in the UniFi interface
✓ Window-mounted installs where the glass side has the best signal

Key Features

5G with a real fallback path
5G NR, 4G LTE and 3G UMTS are all supported. Published peaks are 3.4 Gbps down and 560 Mbps up on 5G NSA, 1.8 Gbps down on 5G standalone, and 1.6 Gbps down on LTE — so the link degrades in steps rather than dropping when 5G coverage thins out.

A screen that tells you the truth
The 1.3-inch touchscreen on the front reports signal and connection state directly on the device. When you are moving the unit around a room looking for the best spot, that is considerably faster than checking a dashboard on another screen after every move.

Three mounting options in the box
Ubiquiti supplies a desktop stand, a wall mount and a window mount. The window mount is the one that matters most often — in a building with thick walls, glass is frequently where the usable signal is, and this lets you put the modem there without improvising.

One cable, 14.5 W
Data and power share the single 2.5 GbE run, with a maximum draw of 14.5 W. That means one cable to route and no mains socket needed at the mounting point, which is what makes the window and wall positions practical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the UniFi 5G Max on its own as my internet router?
No. Ubiquiti calls it a modem and that is the role it plays — it converts a 5G signal into an Ethernet WAN and passes it to a UniFi console or Cloud Gateway, which handles routing, firewall and Wi-Fi. Without a gateway behind it there is no network. If you do not have one yet, ask us and we will put the pair together.
Does a PoE injector come in the box?
Ubiquiti does not publish a complete box list for this model, and its own marketing describes the unit adopting through a UniFi PoE port — so we do not promise an injector. Plan on a PoE switch port, or tell us and we will quote a suitable injector with the order. Maximum draw is 14.5 W.
Should I buy this or the Outdoor version?
Both are rated at the same 3.4 Gbps 5G NSA peak, so this is not a speed decision. Choose this indoor unit when the signal is already usable inside the building — it is smaller, lighter and has the touchscreen and window mount. Choose the Outdoor version when the modem has to live on a roof or a mast, or when you need the directional antennas to reach a distant tower.
Where should I put it for the best signal?
Usually near a window, which is why the window mount is supplied. The touchscreen makes this easy to test: move the unit, read the signal on the front, and settle on the best spot before you dress the cable. Because power arrives over the same Ethernet run, you are not limited to positions near a mains socket.
Singular Expert Insight
Two things decide whether this is the right UniFi 5G unit for you. First, the gateway question — people regularly buy this expecting a router and get a modem, so make sure something on the LAN side is doing the routing. Second, indoor versus outdoor: the peak speeds are identical, so pay for the Outdoor model only when the signal forces you outside or up a pole. Where this unit wins is convenience — the touchscreen and the window mount together make finding the best spot a five-minute job instead of a guessing game. Our routers section covers what can sit behind it, and network switches covers the PoE port that powers it. Send us your carrier and site and we will check the band list before you commit.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want 5G as your main line or as failover, you already run a UniFi console or Cloud Gateway, and the signal indoors is workable. The touchscreen and the three supplied mounts make placement genuinely quick, and one 2.5 GbE cable carries both data and power.

Skip it if

You have no UniFi gateway — this cannot route on its own. Skip it too if the unit needs to be outside: it is rated 0 to 40 °C with no weather rating. And do not count on a SIM or a PoE injector arriving in the carton.

Also consider

The UniFi 5G Max Outdoor if the modem has to be mounted outside or aimed at a distant tower. A UniFi Cloud Gateway for the routing side, and a PoE switch port or injector to power it.
