Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro XG, Black — Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 With a 10 Gigabit Uplink

Tri-band Wi-Fi 710 GbE uplink320 MHz on 6 GHz300+ clients

The U7 Pro XG is Ubiquiti’s tri-band Wi-Fi 7 access point, and the XG in the name means 10 Gigabit — the uplink port runs at 10, 5, 2.5 or 1 GbE. Radios are 2×2 on each of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz, publishing 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz with 320 MHz channels, 4.3 Gbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with 300 or more concurrent clients. This is the black finish, which is identical hardware to the white version with one practical difference worth checking before you order: it needs a newer controller release.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Three things to check, and the first is specific to this finish.

The black version requires UniFi Network 9.1.120 or later, where the white version needs only 9.0.114. A controller on an older release will adopt a white U7 Pro XG and refuse the black one. If your controller has not been updated recently, update it first — or order the white version. The hardware is otherwise the same.

Second, the controller itself. Ubiquiti’s own position is that UniFi access points can be set up without additional devices, but their features will be limited. In standalone mode there is no centralised management, no seamless roaming between access points, no remote access, and management is through the UniFi mobile app only — the web interface is not supported. For any site with more than one AP, a Cloud Gateway, Cloud Key or self-hosted controller is effectively required.

Third, the uplink. A 10 GbE port fed from a Gigabit PoE switch throws away the point of the XG name, and there is no PoE injector in the box. Also check the order line for the U7 Pro XG Wall and the U7 Pro XGS, which are different products with very similar names.

Best For

✓ Sites already running UniFi
✓ Homes and offices with 10 GbE cabling
✓ High client counts in one space
✓ Wi-Fi 7 and 6E client fleets
✓ Replacing several older APs with fewer
✓ Anywhere seamless roaming across APs matters

Key Features

A genuine 10 GbE uplink
10, 5, 2.5 or 1 GbE on the uplink port. Most Wi-Fi 7 access points stop at 2.5G, and on a tri-band radio capable of 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz alone, that is a real constraint. This one does not have it — provided the switch keeps up.

320 MHz channels on 6 GHz
The widest channel Wi-Fi 7 defines, on the band with the room to use it. 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz, 4.3 Gbps on 5 GHz with 240 MHz channels, and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.

300 or more clients
Ubiquiti publishes 300+ concurrent clients. Combined with 2×2 on three bands, that makes this an access point for a busy room rather than a large empty one.

Black, for ceilings where white shows
Identical hardware to the white version, in a finish that disappears against a dark or exposed ceiling. The only functional difference is the controller requirement: UniFi Network 9.1.120 or later, against 9.0.114 for the white unit.

Warranty
Warranty 1-Year Warranty (Singular)
Manufacturer Term Ubiquiti publishes different terms by channel: two years from the date of delivery for products bought directly from its own webstore, and one year from the date Ubiquiti shipped the product to an authorised distributor or reseller for everything else. Note that the distributor clock starts at shipment to the distributor rather than at your purchase. Ubiquiti also sells an optional UI Care extension. Singular’s direct warranty is 1 year; beyond that we assist you with the manufacturer’s warranty process for its full duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a UniFi controller?
For one access point, no — it will run standalone. But Ubiquiti publishes what standalone costs you: no centralised management, no seamless roaming between access points, no remote access, and configuration only through the mobile app, not a browser. And for this black version specifically, the controller must be on UniFi Network 9.1.120 or later before it can be adopted at all.
What does XG actually mean?
Ten Gigabit. The uplink port runs at 10 GbE, negotiating down to 5, 2.5 or 1 GbE as needed. It is the headline feature and the reason to choose this model over cheaper UniFi Wi-Fi 7 access points — and it is wasted if the switch port is Gigabit.
Is a PoE injector included?
No. The access point needs PoE+ and Ubiquiti sells a 10G PoE++ adapter as a separate item, or you can power it from a PoE+ switch port. If the point of buying this AP is the 10 GbE uplink, the switch needs a 10G PoE port — ask us and we will check what you have.
How does the warranty work if I buy from a reseller?
Ubiquiti publishes one year from the date it shipped the product to the distributor or reseller — not from the date you buy it. Stock that has sat in a warehouse therefore arrives with part of that year already used. Buying direct from Ubiquiti’s own store carries two years from delivery instead. Our own one-year warranty runs from your purchase, which is the practical protection here.
Singular Expert Insight
The U7 Pro XG earns its price on one specification: the 10 GbE uplink. Most Wi-Fi 7 access points stop at 2.5G, and a tri-band radio doing 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz alone will find that limiting. If your switching is Gigabit, none of that applies and a cheaper UniFi AP will perform identically — so check the switch first and the datasheet second. The other thing to be clear about is that UniFi is a system, not a product: standalone operation exists but loses roaming, browser management and remote access, which are most of the reasons people choose UniFi in the first place. Budget for a Cloud Gateway or Cloud Key alongside the access points. Finally, read the warranty row carefully: for distributor stock, Ubiquiti’s clock starts when it shipped to the distributor, not when you buy — which is precisely why our own one-year cover from the date of your purchase is worth having. Our full range is in access points, and the 10G side of the network in switches and bridges.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You run UniFi on a current controller release, you have 10 GbE or multi-gig switching, and you want tri-band Wi-Fi 7 in a black finish. The 10 GbE uplink is the reason to choose this over cheaper UniFi Wi-Fi 7 models.

Skip it if

Your UniFi controller is older than release 9.1.120 — it will not adopt the black version, though it will adopt the white one. Skip it too if your switching is Gigabit, since the XG uplink is the whole product.

Also consider

The white U7 Pro XG if your controller is on an older release. A UniFi Cloud Gateway or Cloud Key if you have more than one access point. A 10G PoE++ adapter or PoE switch, since no injector is included.
