Verbatim 49146 — a compact aluminium USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter
USB-C 3.1 Gen 11x RJ45 GigabitAluminiumPXE boot
The Verbatim 49146 is a USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter that adds a wired RJ45 network port to laptops, tablets and desktops with a USB-C port, including Thunderbolt 3 MacBooks and Windows ultrabooks. It is designed for people whose thin laptop has no network socket and who need a stable wired connection at the desk, in a meeting room or in a server room.
The adapter uses a USB 3.1 Gen 1 connection, has a short 10 cm integrated cable and an aluminium housing that matches silver laptops. Verbatim lists Windows 11, 10 and 8, macOS and Linux, and states PXE boot support, which is useful when IT staff deploy or reinstall laptops over the network.
Because it takes its power from the USB-C port, there is nothing else to carry: plug it into the laptop, connect a network cable to the RJ45 socket, and the operating system sets up the connection.
Before you order: The adapter needs a USB-C port that carries data. Some low-cost laptops and phones have USB-C ports for charging only, and the adapter will not work on those. Tell us your laptop model and we will check.
What's in the Box
- Verbatim USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter with integrated 10 cm USB-C cable
- Quick installation guide
- Network cable not included
What It Means in Practice
- Gives a MacBook, Dell XPS, HP or Lenovo ultrabook with only USB-C ports a wired network connection.
- Wired Gigabit is usually more reliable than Wi-Fi for video calls, cloud backups and large downloads.
- PXE boot support lets IT deploy a Windows image over the network, if the laptop firmware allows booting from a USB NIC.
- Handy in a laptop bag for hotels and offices where only a wired port is available.
- The 10 cm cable reduces strain on the laptop port compared with a rigid plug-in adapter.
What Will Not Work
- USB-A only computers — use a USB 3.0 Type-A adapter instead.
- USB-C ports that only charge and do not carry data.
- Speeds above 1 Gbps — this is not a 2.5G adapter.
- Charging pass-through, HDMI or extra USB ports — it provides a network port only.

The adapter supports Gigabit. Actual speed also depends on your switch or router port, the cable (Cat5e or better) and the internet connection.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The 49146 is a tidy, metal-bodied adapter for USB-C laptops that just need a network port, and PXE boot makes it useful for IT departments as well. If you need Ethernet plus charging, monitors and USB ports at the same desk, look at our
USB-C docking stations instead of stacking adapters.
✓ Buy it if you have a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 laptop and need a compact wired Gigabit connection.
✕ Skip it if your computer only has USB-A ports, or you also need charging pass-through or HDMI.
→ Also consider DICOTA D32048 (Gigabit with 100 W USB-C charging pass-through) or Club 3D CAC-1519.
