Verbatim Store ’n’ Go PinStripe 256 GB — Retractable USB-A Drive
256 GBRetractable connectorKeyring hole7 g
The Verbatim Store ’n’ Go PinStripe, part number 49320, is a 256 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive in black, with a push-and-pull sliding connector and a keyring hole moulded into the body. At 55 x 19 x 7 mm and around 7 g it is the lightest drive of its capacity we list, and it is built to be cheap, plentiful and easy to replace rather than fast.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a slow drive and the capacity makes that matter. Verbatim’s own storage catalogue rates the PinStripe USB 3.0 family at up to 30 MB/s read and 10 MB/s write — the same figures at every capacity from 16 GB to this 256 GB. Filling 256 GB at 10 MB/s takes roughly seven hours. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 badge describes the port it plugs into, not the speed of the drive. The drive is supplied formatted FAT32, which cannot hold a single file larger than 4 GB, so reformat to exFAT before copying large video files. USB Type-A only; a phone or USB-C laptop needs an adapter, and none is included.
Best For
✓ Carrying documents, spreadsheets and presentations
✓ A cheap keyring drive you will not mind losing
✓ Handing out files at a meeting or a class
✓ Storing an archive that is written once and read occasionally
✓ Replacing a broken drive without spending much
✓ Anyone who wants 256 GB at the lowest price per gigabyte
Key Features
Retractable connector, keyring hole
A push-and-pull slider moves the USB-A plug in and out of the body, so there is no cap. Verbatim moulds a keyring hole into the end, which is the detail missing from most drives at this price and the reason this one survives a pocket.
7 g and 55 mm long
This is a genuinely light drive — about 7 g, roughly the weight of a house key. It hangs off a keyring without dragging, and it does not act as a lever on the USB port of a laptop that gets carried around while plugged in.
256 GB at the bottom of the price ladder
A quarter of a terabyte for the price of a plain accessory. For documents, installers, scanned archives and photo backups that get written once, the capacity is what you are buying and it delivers exactly that.
Speeds published, if not on the product page
Verbatim’s product page gives no MB/s figure at all — only the 5 Gbps bus rate. The figures we quote, 30 MB/s read and 10 MB/s write, come from Verbatim’s own storage product catalogue, where the whole PinStripe USB 3.0 family shares them.

Singular Expert Insight
The PinStripe is the drive you buy when the job is storage rather than speed, and the honest way to sell it is to put the speed on the page rather than let the buyer discover it. Verbatim itself makes that awkward: the product page quotes only the 5 Gbps bus rate, and the actual figures — 30 MB/s read, 10 MB/s write — live in Verbatim’s own storage catalogue, identical at every capacity from 16 GB to 256 GB. So here is the plain version. This is the cheapest way we sell a quarter of a terabyte on a keyring, it weighs 7 g, it has a slider instead of a losable cap, and it has a keyring hole that most rivals leave out. It will also take about seven hours to fill from empty. Buy it for documents, archives and installers. If you want the same capacity at a speed you notice, the Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 at 220 read and 100 write is the comparison to make.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want 256 GB as cheaply as possible for documents, archives and installers, on a light drive with a keyring hole and no cap to lose. You write it rarely and read it often.
Skip it if
You copy large files onto the drive regularly — 10 MB/s write means about seven hours to fill it. Skip it too if you need USB-C, encryption, or a drive whose speed you will not have to explain to a colleague.
