WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive 4TB External Hard Drive
4TBUSB 3.2 Gen 1Portable 2.5-inchBus-poweredUp to 130 MB/s
The WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive 4TB (part number WDBA3A0040BBK) is a portable 2.5-inch external hard drive connecting over USB 3.2 Gen 1 at up to 5 Gb/s. It is a portable game library: a compact bus-powered drive with a brushed metal top, reading at up to 130 MB/s, sized to travel between a console at home and one elsewhere. At 20.8 mm the 4TB model is slimmer than the 6TB, which is 23.1 mm.
Before you buy: this is a mechanical 2.5-inch drive rather than an SSD, and Western Digital publishes no shock or drop rating for it despite the gaming positioning. Treat it as a normal portable hard drive and do not move it while it is writing. Western Digital also does not publish what file system it ships with. The drive connects with the supplied USB Type-A to Micro-B cable; if your computer only has USB-C ports you will need an adapter or a USB-C to Micro-B cable, which is not included. It is bus-powered, so the single USB cable carries both data and power and there is no mains adapter to find a socket for.
Best For
✓ Carrying a game library between consoles
Bus-powered and pocket-sized, so the only thing to pack is the drive and one cable.
✓ Expanding console storage cheaply
4TB of external space costs a fraction of an internal console expansion drive.
✓ Older-generation titles
Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games run directly from an external USB drive at usable speed.
✓ PC game overflow
A straightforward place to park installed titles that will not fit on a laptop SSD.
Key Features
Bus-powered
A single USB cable carries data and power, so there is no mains adapter to pack or find a socket for.
Up to 130 MB/s read
Western Digital publishes this read figure, typical of a bus-powered 2.5-inch mechanism.
Slim 20.8 mm profile
The 4TB model is thinner than the 6TB version of the same drive, which measures 23.1 mm.
Brushed metal top
A metal cover over the enclosure, though Western Digital publishes no shock or drop rating.
USB 3.2 Gen 1
Backward compatible with USB 2.0, so it works with older consoles and computers at lower speed.
Broad console and PC support
Works with PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X games from the WDBA3A0040BBK?
No. Current-generation titles must run from the internal SSD or an internal NVMe expansion drive on PS5, or the internal SSD or an official expansion card on Xbox Series X and S. PS4 and Xbox One games run directly from this drive, and current-generation games can be stored on it and copied back when you want them, which is far faster than redownloading.
Does the WDBA3A0040BBK need a power adapter?
No. It is bus-powered, so the supplied USB cable carries both data and power. Only the larger desktop D10 requires a mains adapter.
What is the difference between the P10 and the D10 Game Drive?
P10 is compact and bus-powered at up to 130 MB/s, made to travel. D10 is a mains-powered desktop unit at 7200 RPM with active cooling, up to 250 MB/s, and two USB charging ports. Choose P10 for portability and D10 for a permanent setup.
What do I need to know before buying the WDBA3A0040BBK?
It arrives formatted for immediate use but you may want to reformat it for your operating system, which erases the contents. It is bus-powered from the USB cable. A single external drive is not a backup strategy on its own; keep a second copy of anything irreplaceable.
Singular Expert Insight
The P10 is the sensible choice when the drive needs to move, and 4TB is enough for a large installed library. Do not read too much into the gaming branding on durability, though, since Western Digital publishes no shock or drop rating for it. As with any external console drive, the real limitation is platform policy rather than the drive: current-generation titles still have to run from internal storage. See our full range of external hard drives or, if speed matters more than capacity per euro, our external SSDs.
Buyer's Guide
Buy this if
You want a portable, bus-powered game library that travels between consoles or between console and PC.
Skip if
The drive will stay in one place and you want maximum speed. The mains-powered D10 is roughly twice as fast.
Also consider
WD_BLACK D10 Game Drive for a fixed setup, the 6TB P10 if you need more room, or WD My Passport if it is for general file storage.
