Zebra ET40 8" Rugged Enterprise Tablet with Integrated Barcode Scanner

The Zebra ET40 (ET40AA-001C1B0-A6) is an 8-inch rugged enterprise tablet with an integrated SE4100 1D/2D barcode scanner, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, built for retail floors, warehouses and field teams that need a tablet and a scanner in one device.
It is the Wi-Fi model of the ET4x family (the ET45 is the 5G version) and ships with Android 11 with Google Mobile Services. Zebra supports the platform up to Android 14 via LifeGuard updates, and backs the device with six years of support from first sale — far longer than a consumer tablet stays on the market.
Before you order: This is the Wi-Fi-only, Standard-memory (4 GB/64 GB) version with SE4100 scanner. If you need mobile data, look at the ET45; if you need more memory, the Premium 8 GB/128 GB configuration. Charger, cradle and cables are ordered separately.
What's in the Box
- Zebra ET40 8" tablet (ET40AA-001C1B0-A6) with integrated SE4100 scanner
- Rechargeable 6100 mAh battery (user-replaceable)
- Charger, charging cradle and cables are not included — they are separate Zebra accessories
What It Means in Practice
- Scan barcodes directly with the tablet instead of carrying a separate scanner — the SE4100 reads both 1D and 2D codes, including from phone screens.
- IP65 and a 1.2 m drop rating to concrete (1.55 m with the optional rugged frame) mean it survives the shop floor and the warehouse.
- Wi-Fi 6 keeps it fast on modern store networks; NFC supports badge taps and contactless payment apps.
- Android updates up to Android 14 are available, so it stays secure and supported for years.
What Will Not Work
- No mobile data (no SIM/5G) — it needs Wi-Fi; choose the ET45 for cellular.
- It does not come with a charger or cradle; plan for Zebra charging accessories.
- It is not a consumer tablet — no Apple/Samsung accessories fit, and cases must be ET40 8" specific.
- Downgrading after installing the Android 14 update wipes user data and apps.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The ET40 makes sense when staff need both a proper screen and fast scanning — stock checks, price audits, click-and-collect. For pure scanning a handheld computer is cheaper; for office work a consumer tablet is. Compare with our other
tablets.
✓ Buy it if you need a durable Wi-Fi tablet with a built-in barcode scanner for retail or warehouse work.
✕ Skip it if you need mobile data, or you only scan and do not need an 8" screen.
→ Also consider the ET45 for 5G, or a Premium 8 GB/128 GB ET40 configuration.
