The Zebra P1080383-014 is the genuine ribbon out sensor for the Zebra ZD420t 4-inch thermal transfer desktop label printer (ribbon cartridge model), at both 203 and 300 dpi. The sensor tells the printer when the ribbon has run out or broken, so it stops instead of feeding blank labels.

A failed sensor shows up as a ribbon-out error with a good ribbon cartridge loaded, or as the printer carrying on printing blank labels after the ribbon has ended. Zebra lists this part in the ZD420 thermal transfer parts catalogue.
