Zebra DS3608-HP (DS3608-HP3U4602VZW) is an ultra-rugged corded handheld 2D imager from the Zebra 3600 series, supplied as a USB kit for warehouses, loading docks, manufacturing lines and cold rooms.
The High Performance (HP) optics cover everything from close-up 5 mil codes to large 40 mil labels out to about 2 m, and the housing is built for punishment: 3 m drops to concrete, 7,500 tumbles, IP65 and IP68 sealing, and operation from -30 °C to 50 °C.
Before you order: This kit is the corded USB version. Zebra’s HP model also supports RS-232, keyboard wedge and industrial Ethernet, but those need other cables or modules. For freezer-only use or direct-part marks, ask us about the DS3608-ER/DPA variants.

What It Means in Practice
- Forklift drivers and pickers can read labels from about 7 cm up to 2 m (40 mil Code 128) without climbing racks.
- It can be dropped from 3 m onto concrete, hosed down (IP65) and even submerged (IP68) — it is built for the floor, not the shop counter.
- It works as a USB keyboard into WMS, ERP or spreadsheet software.
- Damaged, dirty and shrink-wrapped labels read reliably thanks to PRZM Intelligent Imaging.
What Will Not Work
- It is not cordless — the DS3678-HP is the Bluetooth version with cradle.
- It does not read direct part marks (dot-peen or laser-etched) — that is the DS3608-DPA/DP model.
- Industrial Ethernet (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP) needs a different cable/module from this USB kit.

The 3600 series is what we recommend when ordinary scanners keep breaking in a warehouse or factory. It costs more up front, but drop, water and cold ratings far beyond retail scanners usually pay that back.
✓ Buy it if you scan in warehouses, production or cold rooms and need a scanner that survives drops and water.
✕ Skip it if you need a counter scanner for a shop — a DS2208 or DS8108 is lighter and cheaper.
