Zebra ZD230t — 4-inch thermal transfer desktop label printer, 203 dpi
Thermal Transfer203 dpiUp to 152 mm/sUSB, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
The Zebra ZD230t is a 4-inch desktop label printer that prints by thermal transfer (with direct thermal mode) at 203 dpi and up to 152 mm/s (6 ips), made for shipping and courier labels, warehouse and stock labels, and retail product or shelf labels.
It connects over USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1 (MFi). As a Zebra printer it runs ZPL II and EPL natively, so courier integrations, ERP templates and existing Zebra label formats work without emulation. It is a compact, single-user or workgroup printer for counters, packing benches, back offices and small warehouses rather than a 24/7 industrial line printer.
In practice it sits between a PC or POS terminal and a roll of labels: you design labels in label software such as BarTender, or print them straight from your ERP, WMS, e-shop back office or courier portal. Label size, gap and darkness are set once in the driver or by a quick media calibration, and after that every print lands in the same place on the label.
Before you order: Thermal transfer printing needs a ribbon (wax, wax/resin or resin) at least as wide as your label, on a 12.7 mm (74 m) or 25.4 mm (300 m) core. Ribbon and labels are consumables and are ordered separately. Without a ribbon it can still print on direct thermal labels.

What It Means in Practice
- Labels from 25.4–112 mm wide on rolls up to 127 mm outside diameter — standard 100 × 150 mm (4 × 6 in) shipping labels fit.
- At up to 152 mm/s (6 ips) a 150 mm long label prints in roughly 1.0 seconds, so batches of a few hundred labels are a matter of minutes.
- On the network (Wi-Fi) several PCs can print to it, so one printer can serve a packing bench or an office.
- With a ribbon, prints resist heat, rubbing and light far better than direct thermal — suitable for asset tags, outdoor parcels and long-term stock labels.
- Bluetooth 4.1 is MFi-certified, so iPhones, iPads and Android devices can print with supported apps without a network.
What Will Not Work
- Media wider than 112 mm or rolls larger than 127 mm outside diameter.
- Ribbons with the wrong core size (it takes 12.7 mm (74 m) or 25.4 mm (300 m) cores) or longer than 300 m.
- Colour printing, photos or ordinary A4 office printing — it prints one colour (black) on label media.
- Wired Ethernet — this version is USB plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; ZD230 connectivity is factory-installed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my courier's ZPL labels print?
Yes — ZPL II is the ZD230's native language, so ZPL files from couriers and marketplaces print directly.
Which ribbon should I order?
A Zebra-compatible ribbon 33.8–109.2 mm wide: 74 m on a ½-inch core or 300 m on a 1-inch core. Wax for paper labels, wax/resin or resin for coated or synthetic labels.
Can I add Ethernet later?
No. ZD230 connectivity is factory-installed; this version connects by USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Can I print courier labels from the carrier website?
Yes. Courier and marketplace portals offer labels as PDF, which prints through the Windows driver once the label size is set. ZPL or EPL files can also be sent to the printer directly, which is faster and keeps barcodes razor-sharp.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The ZD230t with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is the most flexible ZD230: durable thermal transfer labels, native ZPL, and placement anywhere within Wi-Fi range or next to a tablet-based workstation. If you opt for a networked version instead, connect it with a patch cable from our
network cables range.
✓ Buy it if you need durable 4-inch labels and want to print without network cabling or from mobile devices.
✕ Skip it if you only print courier labels — a direct thermal model has no ribbon cost.
→ Also consider Zebra ZD230d (direct thermal) or BIXOLON XD3-40tEK (thermal transfer with Ethernet).
