Cisco Catalyst IE-9320-22S2C4X-E — IE9300 Rugged Series Fibre Switch, Network Essentials

The Cisco Catalyst IE-9320-22S2C4X-E is a rugged 1U rack-mount Layer 3 switch from the Catalyst IE9300 Rugged Series with 22 Gigabit SFP ports, 2 combo ports (SFP or RJ45) and 4 1/10G SFP+ uplinks, built for substations, rail, traffic and industrial control networks that need fibre at every port.
The -E version runs Cisco Network Essentials (perpetual licence). It is fanless and convection-cooled with conformal coating as standard, operates from -40 to 70 °C in a vented cabinet, and supports stacking of up to four switches, PRP/HSR redundancy, PTP timing and GNSS/IRIG-B time input. Power supplies, optics, stack cables and rack kits are separate orderable parts.
Before you order: Power supply is a separate part: this model accepts PWR-RGD-AC-DC-H (150 W, AC 100–240 V / DC 100–250 V) or PWR-RGD-LOW-DC-H (150 W, DC 24–60 V); two can be fitted for redundancy. SFP/SFP+ optics, stack cables and the 19" rack kit are also ordered separately. Tell us your site power and fibre type and we will build the full parts list.
What's in the Box
- Cisco Catalyst IE-9320-22S2C4X-E switch chassis
- Cisco does not publish a package-contents list — power supply, SFP/SFP+ modules, stack cables, SD card and rack-mount kit are separate orderable products
What It Means in Practice
- Plan at least one 150 W rugged power supply (two for redundant feeds) and the right optics for every port you will use.
- The 22 SFP ports take 100M or 1G fibre optics, so each field device or ring segment can be on its own fibre run, up to the distance of the optic you choose.
- The four SFP+ uplinks take 1G or 10G optics or Twinax DAC cables towards the core.
- With StackWise you can manage up to four IE9320 switches as one; stack cables CAB-STK-0.5M= or CAB-STK-1M= are sold separately.
- Network Essentials covers Layer 2 and basic routing; for BGP/EIGRP and Cyber Vision you need the -A (Network Advantage) model.
What Will Not Work
- It does not provide PoE.
- It does not mount on DIN rail — it is a 19" 1U rack unit (rack kit RM-RGD-19IN= sold separately).
- The 250 W and 400 W rugged power supplies are not listed for this model.
- GLC-T copper SFPs are not supported on the combo ports; use the built-in RJ45 side of the combo port instead.
- Commercial or extended-temperature optics lower the switch's allowed operating temperature — use industrial-temperature optics for the full -40 to 70 °C range.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between -E and -A?
-E is Network Essentials. -A is Network Advantage, which adds advanced routing (BGP, EIGRP) and includes a 3-year, 24-endpoint Cyber Vision licence.
Is a power supply included?
Cisco lists the power supplies as separate products and does not publish box contents, so order PWR-RGD-AC-DC-H or PWR-RGD-LOW-DC-H with the switch.
Do I need a Catalyst Center (DNA) subscription?
No. Cisco lists Catalyst Center licences as optional add-ons for this series.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The IE-9320-22S2C4X-E is the fibre-dense member of the IE9300 family — the right fit when every field cabinet or relay connects over fibre and the site needs substation or rail certifications. If you need copper PoE ports for cameras or access points, look at a PoE model instead. See our other
network switches.
✓ Buy it if you are building a fibre-based industrial or substation network that needs 1G SFP access, 10G uplinks and hardened certifications in a 19" rack.
✕ Skip it if you need PoE, DIN-rail mounting, or advanced routing and Cyber Vision (choose the -A model).
→ Also consider PWR-RGD-AC-DC-H power supply, industrial-temperature SFP/SFP+ optics and the RM-RGD-19IN= rack kit.
Send us your site power (AC, high-DC or 24–60 V DC), fibre type and port count, and we will prepare the full parts list before you order.
