3M Bright Screen Privacy Filter BP123C3E for 12.3" 3:2 Full Screen Laptops

The 3M Bright Screen Privacy Filter BP123C3E is a 12.3" 3:2 laptop privacy filter for full-screen, edge-to-edge displays. Anyone looking from outside a 60° viewing cone sees a dark screen, while you keep a clear picture straight on — for people who handle client, financial or personal data on trains, in airports, open-plan offices and at client sites.
It uses 3M Bright Screen technology with a Nanolouver structure. 3M quotes an average 85% light transmission — up to 25% brighter than its other black privacy filters — so you rarely need to raise the backlight to compensate. The filter is reversible: one side is glossy for the sharpest image, the other matte to cut reflections and fingerprints. 3M also says it helps reduce blue light without distorting colours, and that every filter is hand-inspected and withstands hundreds of cleanings.
Many companies now list screen privacy filters in their clean-desk and data-protection policies for staff who work in public places. A fitted filter is the simplest visible measure: it needs no software, no power and no change in how you work.
Before you order: This is the full-screen version for 12.3" 3:2 laptops whose glass runs edge to edge. Check the aspect ratio in your laptop’s specifications: a 3:2 filter will not cover a 16:9 or 16:10 screen correctly.
What's in the Box
- 1 × 3M Bright Screen Privacy Filter BP123C3E, 12.3" 3:2
- 3M COMPLY Flip Attach set — hinged tabs that hold the filter on the laptop and let you flip it up
- 3M COMPLY Adhesive Strips — a low-profile alternative attachment
What It Means in Practice
- People beside you see a black screen once they are outside the 60° viewing cone; straight on, the image stays normal.
- With about 85% light transmission the screen stays bright at normal backlight levels, which also helps battery life compared with darker filters.
- Flip the filter up on its COMPLY hinge to show the screen to a colleague, then fold it back down — no need to remove it.
- Fitting takes a few minutes: clean the screen, place the small COMPLY tabs on the bezel (or use the adhesive strips), then hang the filter on them. Keep the tabs aligned so the filter sits flat and centred.
- Choose the glossy side for vivid colours or the matte side for bright offices and fewer fingerprints; decide before you attach it.
- 3M states all Bright Screen filters are touch compatible, so touchscreen laptops remain usable.
What Will Not Work
- A 12.3" screen with a different aspect ratio (16:9 or 16:10) — the filter will leave gaps or overhang.
- Laptops with a raised frame around the glass — this full-screen version is sized for edge-to-edge displays.
- Vertical privacy: protection is side-to-side in landscape; someone standing directly behind you can still see the screen.
- Desktop monitors or a second screen — they need their own, larger 3M monitor filter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the filter make the screen darker?
A little light is always lost with a privacy filter. 3M quotes an average 85% light transmission for Bright Screen, which is why most users keep their usual brightness setting.
Can I take it off and put it back?
Yes. With the COMPLY Flip Attach tabs fitted, the filter lifts off and goes back on while the tabs stay on the bezel. The adhesive strips are the more permanent, low-profile option.
How do I choose the right size?
Check the screen size and aspect ratio in your laptop’s specifications — 16:9 screens are wider and shorter than 16:10, and full-screen versions are for glass that runs to the edge. Send us the exact laptop model and we will confirm the right 3M filter.
How should I clean it?
Wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, the same way you clean a display — no abrasive cleaners or paper towels. 3M rates the filter to withstand hundreds of cleanings.
Can I use it on an external monitor?
No. It is sized for a 12.3" 3:2 laptop screen. Desktop monitors need their own 3M monitor privacy filter in the matching size.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A privacy filter is the cheapest control against shoulder-surfing when you work on a laptop outside the office, and 3M’s COMPLY flip design means people actually keep it on. Bright Screen is the version to choose if you dislike the dim look of classic black filters. If you also need privacy at the desk, see our
3M privacy filters for desktop monitors.
✓ Buy it if you have a 12.3" 3:2 edge-to-edge laptop and want privacy that flips up when you need to share.
✕ Skip it if your screen is 16:9 or 16:10, or has a raised frame.
→ Also consider a different 3M size if your screen differs.
