EFB-Elektronik LC–LC Fibre Optic Patch Cable · OM5 Multimode Duplex · 3 m
OM5 50/125 µmLC ↔ LC duplex3 mLSZH · Lime green
The EFB-Elektronik LC to LC patch cable is a 3 m duplex OM5 multimode fibre optic cord for linking two LC ports – typically a switch or server SFP port to a patch panel, media converter or another switch in the same rack or room.
OM5 is wideband 50/125 µm multimode fibre (lime green) designed for short-wave WDM and backwards compatible with OM3/OM4 optics. The jacket is halogen-free LSZH, so it is suitable for offices, comms rooms and other indoor spaces where low smoke and no halogen gases are preferred. Each cable ships with its own measurement protocol.
Before you order: This is a multimode (50/125 µm) cable. It works only with multimode short-reach optics (SR/SX, 850 nm) – not with single-mode LR/LX optics. Check the transceiver label (or tell us the model) before ordering.
What's in the Box
- 1 × EFB-Elektronik LC–LC OM5 duplex patch cable, 3 m
- 2 × duplex clips
- 1 × measurement protocol (test report)
- 1 × information sheet – supplied in a resealable polybag
What It Means in Practice
- Both ends are LC – the small push-latch connector used on SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and duplex-LC QSFP transceivers and on most current patch panels.
- Duplex means two fibres – one transmits, one receives. If the link does not come up, the pair is usually crossed: swap the two connectors at one end.
- At 3 m the cable length is never the distance limit – the transceiver type is. Measure the real route including slack, and keep bends gentle (minimum bend radius static >10 × OD, dynamic >20 × OD).
- OM3, OM4 and OM5 are all 50/125 µm and can be patched together; the link then performs to the lowest grade in the path.
What Will Not Work
- Not for single-mode LR/LX optics – multimode and single-mode must not be mixed in one link.
- Not for RJ45 copper ports – a fibre link needs an SFP/SFP+ transceiver or a media converter at each end.
- It does not fit SC or ST ports – choose the cable with the matching connector at each end (or ask us).
- Avoid patching it into old OM1 62.5/125 µm cabling – the core mismatch causes high loss.
- Not for green APC (angled-polish) ports – APC and flat-polished connectors must never be mated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it work with my SFP+ module?
If the module is an SR/SX (850 nm) multimode type with a duplex LC port, yes. The part number on the module usually ends in SR/SX or LR – send it to us if unsure.
Can I join two of these cables?
Yes, with a matching LC coupler or through a patch panel. Each joint adds a small loss, which is not a concern for typical in-building links.
Do I need OM4, or is OM3 enough?
For links of a few metres both work identically. The grade matters for long runs and for 40G/100G multimode optics – match the grade of your existing cabling.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A fibre patch cord is the cheapest part of the link and the one most often ordered wrong. Three things decide it: fibre mode (multimode), grade (OM5) and the connector at each end (LC–LC). If those match your optics and your panel, this cable just works. Browse our
switches with SFP/SFP+ ports if you are planning the link from scratch.
✓ Buy it if your optics are multimode SR/SX, you need LC–LC ends and 3 m covers the route with some slack.
✕ Skip it if your transceivers are single-mode (LR/LX), your ports use SC connectors, or you need copper RJ45.
→ Also consider the same EFB-Elektronik LC–LC OM5 cord in another length – the series runs from 0.5 m upwards.
Not sure which connector or grade you have? Send us the switch, transceiver or panel model and we will check it before you order.
