Manhattan Toslink Digital Optical Audio Cable, 3m
Toslink ↔ ToslinkS/PDIF optical3 mBlack PVC
The Manhattan Toslink Digital Optical Audio Cable (356084) is a 3 m male-to-male optical S/PDIF lead for carrying digital audio from a TV, games console, Blu-ray or set-top box to a soundbar, AV receiver or DAC.
Because the signal travels as light through a 1 mm optical fibre, it is immune to electrical interference (EMI/RFI) and hum from ground loops. Gold-plated contacts and PVC boots with strain relief protect the plugs, and the 2.2 mm PVC jacket keeps the cable flexible for routing behind furniture.
Before you order: Both devices need a square Toslink (optical) port. Mini-Toslink (3.5 mm optical jacks found on some laptops and older Macs) needs an adapter, which is not included.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Manhattan Toslink digital optical audio cable, 3 m
- Protective dust caps on the plugs (remove before use)
- Supplied in a polybag
What It Means in Practice
- Plug one end into the OPTICAL OUT / DIGITAL AUDIO OUT of the TV or console and the other into OPTICAL IN on the soundbar or receiver, then select optical as the audio output.
- Carries stereo PCM and compressed surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 — the formats your source and receiver support decide what you hear.
- No power is needed and the cable is passive; length up to 3 m is comfortably within what optical S/PDIF handles.
- Keep bends gentle: the minimum bend radius is 20 mm. Sharp kinks can break the fibre.
What Will Not Work
- HDMI ARC/eARC connections — this is an optical lead, not HDMI.
- Lossless multichannel formats such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos (lossless) or DTS-HD MA — S/PDIF cannot carry them; use HDMI eARC for those.
- Coaxial (RCA) digital audio ports or analogue headphone jacks.
- Mini-Toslink 3.5 mm optical jacks without a separate adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Optical S/PDIF is still the simplest, hum-free way to get digital sound from a TV or console into a soundbar or receiver that lacks HDMI eARC. Check that both ends have the square Toslink socket before ordering. For HDMI-based setups, browse our video switchers and AV accessories.
✓ Buy it if your TV, console or player has an optical output and your soundbar, receiver or DAC has an optical input about 3 m away.
✕ Skip it if you need lossless surround or Atmos (use HDMI eARC), or one of your devices only has a mini-Toslink 3.5 mm jack.
→ Also consider shorter or longer Manhattan Toslink cables, or a Toslink coupler if you need to join two leads — ask us.
Not sure your devices have the right port? Send us the TV, soundbar or receiver model and we will check before you order.
