3M Privacy Filter PF156W9B for 15.6" 16:9 Laptops, 60° Black-Out Privacy, Reversible Gloss/Matte, COMPLY Flip Attach, Black

The 3M Privacy Filter PF156W9B is a 15.6" 16:9 laptop privacy filter for laptops with a raised bezel. Anyone looking from outside a 60° viewing cone sees a dark screen, while you keep a clear picture straight on — for people who handle client, financial or personal data on trains, in airports, open-plan offices and at client sites.

It is 3M’s standard black privacy filter: a louvered film that narrows the viewing angle so that side viewers see black. The surface is reversible — glossy for a crisper picture, matte to reduce glare and fingerprints — and 3M states it helps reduce blue light without distorting colours and withstands hundreds of cleanings.

Many companies now list screen privacy filters in their clean-desk and data-protection policies for staff who work in public places. A fitted filter is the simplest visible measure: it needs no software, no power and no change in how you work.

• 1 × 3M Privacy Filter PF156W9B, 15.6" 16:9
• 3M COMPLY Flip Attach set — hinged tabs that hold the filter on the laptop and let you flip it up
• 3M COMPLY Adhesive Strips — a low-profile alternative attachment

• People beside you see a black screen once they are outside the 60° viewing cone; straight on, the image stays normal.
• Like any black privacy filter it darkens the image slightly; plan on a little more backlight in bright rooms.
• Flip the filter up on its COMPLY hinge to show the screen to a colleague, then fold it back down — no need to remove it.
• Fitting takes a few minutes: clean the screen, place the small COMPLY tabs on the bezel (or use the adhesive strips), then hang the filter on them. Keep the tabs aligned so the filter sits flat and centred.
• Choose the glossy side for vivid colours or the matte side for bright offices and fewer fingerprints; decide before you attach it.
• 3M lists this model as not touch compatible — it is meant for non-touch laptops.

• A 15.6" screen with a different aspect ratio (16:10) — the filter will leave gaps or overhang.
• Edge-to-edge (full-screen) laptops without a raised bezel.
• Vertical privacy: protection is side-to-side in landscape; someone standing directly behind you can still see the screen.
• Touch input — 3M lists this standard black filter as not touch compatible.
• Desktop monitors or a second screen — they need their own, larger 3M monitor filter.
