Intellinet QSFP+ 40G DAC Cable — 0.5 m, MSA universal coded
0.5 mQSFP+ to QSFP+40 GbpsMSA coded
The Intellinet 508490 is a 0.5 m QSFP+-to-QSFP+ direct attach copper (DAC) cable that links two 40G ports — switch to switch, switch to server network card or switch to storage — without buying two optical transceivers and a fibre patch cord.
It is coded to the open QSFP+ MSA, for ports that accept standard, non-vendor-locked modules. Intellinet lists it as MSA-compliant for QSFP+ ports from Cisco, Zyxel, TP-Link, Ubiquiti, D-Link, MikroTik, Dell Force10, Fortinet and others, and as an equivalent to the Cisco QSFP-H40G-CU50CM.
Before you order: Some switches and network cards (certain Cisco, HPE/Aruba, Juniper and Intel models) only accept their own coded modules or need a setting to allow third-party ones. If yours is one of them, send us the model before ordering and we will tell you which coded version works.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Intellinet QSFP+ DAC cable, 0.5 m, with fixed QSFP+ plugs on both ends (supplied in a bag)
What It Means in Practice
- 0.5 m is enough to join two ports on the same switch or two devices stacked directly above each other in the same rack.
- No transceivers to buy: each end is a fixed QSFP+ plug, so one cable replaces two short-range optics plus a fibre patch cord — less cost and lower latency on short links.
- It is hot-pluggable: plug it into a powered port and the link comes up at 40G when both ports support that speed.
- Copper twinax is thicker and stiffer than fibre (minimum bend radius 33 mm) — leave a gentle loop at the port instead of folding it sharply against the cage.
What Will Not Work
- RJ45 / 10GBASE-T copper ports — a DAC needs a QSFP+ cage at both ends.
- SFP+ ports — this is a QSFP+ to QSFP+ cable; SFP+ ports need an SFP+ DAC.
- Runs longer than 0.5 m — the length is fixed; for longer distances use QSFP+ optics and fibre.
- Breakout to 4 × 10G — this is a straight 40G cable, not a QSFP+ to 4 × SFP+ breakout.
Key Features

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A DAC is the most economical way to connect 40G equipment that sits close together. The two decisions are length and coding: measure the real cable path (not the straight-line distance) and match the coding to the switch brand. Browse our switches if you are planning the rest of the link.
✓ Buy it if you are connecting two QSFP+ ports up to 0.5 m apart on equipment that accepts MSA modules.
✕ Skip it if your ports are RJ45, your run is longer than 0.5 m, or your switch only accepts its own vendor-coded modules.
→ Also consider Longer Intellinet QSFP+ DACs for links between racks, or QSFP+ optics with fibre beyond a few metres.
Not sure which coding or length you need? Send us the switch and network card models and we will check compatibility before you order.
